Hi all! I went to my Dr. (regular) and she gave me great advice, having been through this surgery herself years ago. Thought I'd share what I learned. To prep ourselves for surgery it's a good idea to do deep breathing exercises (blowing up 10 balloons day 1, then 12 on day 2, etc.) enlarging our lung capacity as our extra weight on our chests compresses our lungs more than most people's and during anesthesia in surgery, it can be harder on us. Also, she advised not inflaming our GI tracts for 6 wks. prior- anything that usually gives you trouble- avoid like the plague. Eat gently in otherwords- no hot sauces, high fats, super fibers etc. Also, Exercise- even sitting in a chair and doing circles with our arms and walking in place is better than none. Laying on your back and "bicycling" will get our circulation going in our legs. Walking of course is best but if you can't walk, start with exercises above. I am doing them starting today- prepping like an ahlete facing a big event-oops! I AM facing a big event! (Hope this was helpful.).
