What brand of Protein did you buy?
Hey everyone,
Now that I have to buy the protein powder, I need some advice on what brand to get & where/how you purchased it.
I'm thinking about Unjury, just because of all the recipes I was given that had that as the ingredient.
I had my Nutrition classes last December, so I don't remember which brands I sampled & which ones I liked or hated.
Any & all ideas are appreciated!!!!!!!!!
Jackie - I bought the Unjury because I needed to check if I could tolerate it. I'm highly allergic to soy, so I need whey protein (supposed to be better for us anyway) and Unjury has soy lecithin in it, so I ordered the office/trial packets. I love this stuff. To me, it actually tastes pretty good. I've tried the chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry sorbet. I have the trial packets of the chicken broth, but haven't tried it yet. I hear most folks think it's pretty good, but you can't get it too hot, or it will clump.
I'm planning to use it to help me lose my pre-surgery weight and then I'll continue to use it afterwards.

Hi Jackie... I had purchased from GNC their pro performance becuase it was inexpensive and it came in many different flavors. Also with GNC they will let you return it if you dont like the taste within 30 days. I did end up buying some unflavored unjury from the Dr. office but I didnt use very much of it... after a while it was hard to tolerate any protien shake!
Kelly... You can get samples from Unjury.com. They are pretty inexpensive but I dont think you will get them prior to your surgery but they may be worth getting to have when you get home.
Good luck to all you guys!

Hi Jackie,
I got ahold of some Pro-Rated, chocolate, that was given to me at two different support group meetings. There were no takers when they were offered so the first time, I got the chocolate and tried it pre-surgery....it was N.A.S.T.Y. It is true, however, that your taste buds can majorly change after surgery (wondering if this is true for Lap Band as well?) but after my surgery, I absolutely LOVE the chocolate Pro-rated now. To me, it's like drinking a glass of cold chocolate milk each morning for breakfast. Since then, another bag was offered to me and I was very happy to have it. It did sell at Costo but they recently stopped carrying it (typical of Costco to do this) but I was able to do a Google search and find that I can order it online.
Bottom line, be prepared that you may stock up on Protein Powder and find you absolutely can't stand the taste. You may want to wait before buying too much until that time if you want to save money. There are many good protein powders on the market today and the general rule of thumb is to look for one that offers 25 grams of protein per scoop. That's not always easy to find but it is what Karlyn recommended to our group when she was asked at one of our nutrition classes.
I found one that is very high in protein but traveled to Lincoln City to the outlet mall and found it at Vitamin World. Who knows if it's good but thought I would try it none-the-less.
Karlyn is also a great resource if you want to give her a call. I heard she has found another protein powder she is recommending to all of us. (hearsay only)
It's just one of those things you have to shop around for. I believe Vitamin stores are your best bet for very high quality powders. Unjury is also good and I think you can buy some from our center as well if you want to give it a try. The nice thing about Unjury is that it can be mixed in to foods and not only used as a drink. It's higher priced but a great product none-the-less.

Jackie, Unjury chocolate is my favorite. I drink a shake every night as my bedtime snack. I also have the vanilla, which is good mixed with a packet of crystal light. Orange crystal light is great and taste like a cream sicle. (spelling??) I usually put one packet of splenda in it, some ice and blend it up. That one will be great this summer. Julia
