Went to PCP yesterday and my blood pressure is considered "under control without medication" OMG....can this be? Has not been this way in 20 years.....it is everything I prayed for. Only 6 days post op and already off my blood pressure meds. Now the fun begins to focus on the weight loss and have a blast with it. Thanks to each and every one of you that have encouraged and inspired me. I love all the people I have grown to personally know through this process and I'm excited about my new friendships as well. Here's to all of us for making a healthy choice for ourselves

Darla, THAT IS SO AWESOME!!! I can't believe that it can happen so fast, to be coming off your meds......but, if the doc & the "cuff" say it is so, then "good bye meds"!!! I sure do hope I get the same results with some of my meds....mostly my cpap machine for sleep apnea! If I can get off that machine, then I know I have overcome sleep apnea & my life will be less fearful of driving my car or motorcycle. Since I fell asleep at the wheel last July , I have not ridden my motorcycle more than a few miles from home. I miss it so much! I even had to go out for a ride on Sunday, when the temp got above 40 degrees! Keep up the good work!!! Take care..... Jackie

Jackie, Dr. Umbach could not guarantee that I would be off of the meds since I have been considered LONG TERM for my meds but he was sure my blood pressure would, at a minimum, respond to the medication. I was hopeful but certainly didn't expect it. Now if I can get off those nasty things, I don't see any reason the CPAP is likely to end up with the same result for you. It may take a bit,,,,my PCP thought my BP would take at least 2 months from surgery date so she was amazed when she saw my readings all this week and the one she took yesterday. I have to keep monitoring but did again today and it was 125/80... Oh I better slow down or I may get a raise in my Blood Pressure from the EXCITEMENT!!! Go away BP pills, Darla ain't here Thanks for your kindness. Darla

Jackie- (sorry Darla, this response is to Jackie, LOL) I also had (key word= HAD) severe sleep apnea and put up with that stupid CPAP machine for a year before surgery. But when I returned from the hospital (from my RNY) I didn't use my CPAP machine again. I just didn't feel like it, being in pain and coming off the drugs, then I just never used it again. I told my hubby to listen to me sleep for several nights, and he said I sounded peaceful and didn't even snore. I used to snore every night for most my adult life... When I saw my doc on the 1 month appt. he said I could stop using the CPAP machine, and I had already lost 30 pounds by then. I already felt soooo much better! So, I was bad to play "doctor" with deciding to stop the machine immediately, but I *DID* get the okay to stop it at 30 days after surgery... You will see a big difference very quickly! Rebecca, 5'8" 269/161/155 BMI "Normal" and have slept like a peaceful baby for 10 months now!
