Does OSHU do the "vertical gastrectomy" surgery? Did you have one? Or know anyone who has? I would love to hear more. Thanks I know I came to the right place to ask!

OHSU does RNY Gastric Bypass, Lap Band, and Duodenal Switch. I think the Duodenal Switch is a type of vertical gastrectomy, isn't it? Google OHSU Bariatrics -- you will get to their site and get lots of information. Linda

Hi CJ - I've been looking around for a little bit of info for you. If you click on the "home" link at the top of the page (under the search window), you'll see a list of procedures at the top left of the OH homepage. Click on Duodenal Switch and it will tell you that the name of the procedure is actually "vertical gastrectomy with duodenal switch". I know OHSU does duodenal switch, but not sure they do the vertical gastrectomy without it. You can always call them! Linda

C, Wow, I googled: vertical gastrectomy & I did not like what I read. Partial or full removal of your stomach? Only stage one of surgery, then would have to go to stage two: rny or lapband????????? Why would anyone concider this route? Maybe you know more about this than I do (had never heard of it until you wrote the question & I Googled for an answer), it just seems like a real severe way to go about loosing weight. Sorry for my opinion, but remember.....it's just my opinion, you are the one who is doing the research & doing it for what is best for YOU! Take care & good luck! Jackie

Hi Jackie, Thanks for the info. I had not heard of it till yesterday either. I have very little info. I heard it was the same as rny with the exception of the intestine was not messed with so you would'nt get the dumping syd. or have the malasorbortion problems with vit and mineral defic. or such. I think I will keep on researching it, before I say yes to it! Please forgive the spelling here. CJ
