Idea for meeting place next month

In the breakfast meeting place post for next month, I had mentioned using the rec room in my apartment complex to do a potluck type breakfast/brunch but it was brought up this evening that maybe we can do a clothing exchange too. We could even maybe play some games if anyone is into that kind of thing. The apartment complex that I live in has a large rec room and they hold birthday parties and wedding receptions in there. We could meet there and do potluck or something. It has a full kitchen inside as well. There would be lots of room to mingle and visit too. There is a $50.00 deposit on the room but I could just write a check for it and then as soon as we clean up and leave, they would give it right back. So, no biggy at all. Let me know what you guys think. It is on 30th and main by Goodwill in Springfield. Brentwood Estates.

I think it would be GREAT FUN to play games. Clothing is always good too (I'm sorry but my clothes have been dibbed for by my mother already) I think a little something to eat sometimes at the meetings is OK but it sure would be nice if we had some meetings where food was not a part of it. Just my thought. I know that almost every function I attend in life revolves around eats and in trying to break old habits, maybe we could refrain sometimes from food idea and focus on FUN AND GAMES AND SOCIALIZING...... What do you think? Also, if anyone else reads this, please comment back as well. Maybe I'm alone in this thinking but one thing I love about this group is the ability to make suggestions and see where they go.

I totally agree with you there, that is why I suggested doing the games and maybe we could have some snacky type stuff ... protein and whole wheat only!! Oh and lots of water. hee hee I also love to play games so I think that Jackie's idea of doing games and clothing exchange is great. I will see what weekends that the room is available in February and we can decide then. More feedback would be great from the rest of the folks as to what they think.

I think this sounds great -- except I'm not a game player. Psychological aversion that I picked up in childhood and ain't gonna happen -- no way, no how. Of course, I can always watch! Clothing exchange would be great too. Of course, I have nothing to exchange yet, but maybe in a few months! I also agree that we don't always have to have food. Maybe when the weather warms up and I've got some pounds off, we could meet in the park and go for walks too? Linda

Kim it sounds like it would work for me. Just send me date, time, and address and I am there. I have a friend who had her surgery in Portland and she is interested in attending, and we are counseling with a good friend who is seriously thinking of surgery so I may bring her along. I will have a better idea closer to the date. Thanks for offering your rec room. Kathy

I will see what weekends are open next month and post so everyone knows when it is. It sounds like fun. That would be great if your friend wants to come ... everyone is welcome!!

Hey guys, Sounds great!! My weekends in February are all booked up with work (overtime is approved for it) or motorcycle planning meeting (17th). But, the great thing about my job is, if I need the time off, all I have to do is put my name on a list and 9 times out of 10, someone will pick up that shift for me. That's one reason why I mentioned, the more notice given, the better as to WHEN! I totally agree with Darla, it doesn't always have to involve food, but good/healthy snacks are always needed. But, as food is going to always be a major "thought" on our minds, sometimes it is good to have a meeting on real good choices & samples to try. A lot of folks are going through those Stage 2 & 3 times & need suggestions, recipes, product choices....without having to pay for them to try them out! Same goes for the vitamins we talked about at the group meeting last night. These extra meetings are the time when these kinds of topics really should be discussed, when we all can take our time & really try the stuff the experts are wanting us to be using. Just a thought! I'm wondering whether you guys would consider an early afternoon gathering, You are central to a lot of us here in Oregon and there may be interest from some in the Portland area and Coos Bay, etc in attending a state get together/clothing exchange. Pot lucks are not my forte, so each to their own on that. Maybe you could meet for breakfast and then gather for a clothing exchange and social? Just a thought. tee
