Hey everyone I am pretty new here I have posted only a couple times before a while back and I just have a few questions. I am going through the obesity institute at Good Samaritan and I just got done with all my pre-op testing and everything went well. But they told me I would have to lose about 12 pounds, which I can do but I am wondering if I need to lose 12 pounds before I see the surgeon or 12 pounds before the actual surgery? I kind of left not knowing what to expect next. I am going to call them on Monday but I just thought maybe someone here could help me before then. Also, for people going through Good Samaritan, do you know how long it takes to get an apointment with the surgeon, after all the pre-op testing?

Beth, Honestly not sure. With my surgeon (OHSU) I had to lose my weight by the surgical appointment. Hope this is helpful, Michele

Hi Beth, It sounds like we are about on the same track!! I am in the SAME boat!! I just did all my pre op stuff and at the last appt. was when the Legacy Obesity staff told me that I need to lose 15 pounds. To be honest, I was kinda upset that they didn't tell me sooner. I stayed the same weight through three months of counseling, the holidays and the death of my mother. I thought I was doing really good for just not gaining!! (And that is what the dieticians told me, too!!) Anyhow, it seems like it is maybe not that big of a deal?? I have called Legacy Obesity Institute several times and haven't heard what is the deal. Do you have a target timeframe to have the surgery?

Kristal, They didn't give me a time frame but I would like to have surgery by the spring.. Did they give you a time frame?..I don't think loosing the 12 pounds will be that big of a deal the only thing is that my BMI is just over 40 and if I loose the 12 pounds I will be under 40, and if my BMI is under 40 my insurance will not cover the surgery. Im just so confused.
