New to the Oregon Board
Hello all I'm new to OH totally but I have been lurking around on the main board. People were talking about posting on there state board and I thought I would see what its all about. I have not had surgery yet. I"m waiting to hear from my insurance company for approval (figers crossed) I have UHC so I hope it will be smoth but I have no idea LOL. I live in Beaverton and am going to have surgery at OHSU ( again fingers crossed) I haven't meet with the surgen yet I guess you do that after your approved. I have done my consult and my dietian and physc eval. So has anyone had surgery at OHSU? if so who was your dr? how did you like it? are they good? I picked them because I think OHSU has a great rep in general and I know the lady that schedules everything. Well thats enought about my surgery.
A little about me. I'm 27 married almost 10 years we have 1 son who is 2 years as of the 3rd of Jan. I can't believe how fast my baby is growing up. I'm looking forward to meeting others in the area! I love to hear stories so if you want to share please feel free.
If you finished this noval good for you LOL

Hi,
I too am planning on having surgery at OHSU. I am scheduled with Dr. O'rourke. I have not met him as a patient yet but I am a nurse at OHSU and I really have only heard wonderful things about all of the physicians that do weight loss surgery. I am scheduled on the 20th of Feb. I am really excited!
Hi guys,
I just had RNY at OHSU with Dr. O'Rourke on 1/2/07. It went great. Dr. O is very business like, and he explains everything in detail. He is however very patient if you have questions, so don't be afraid to ask. I had 3 pages worth hehe... I was afraid he would faint :P
The OHSU staff at the hospital were great. The NP was there every day to talk to me, the nurses (especially day nurses) were awesome. The night nurses were good, but they were a little more stretched.
Be ready for the masses of med students to descend on you, but they don't examine you and they only stay for about 2 minutes... 1x a day lol. Felt like I was on a TV show :P
Basically, ask questions if you have them, don't be afraid to bug the nurses and aides, and also don't be afraid to get up and move. I started out moving slow and short walks but was doing laps by my 2nd day. The more you move the better you feel... no matter how odd that sounds before hand.
Oh and BREATHE! Use the little spirometer machine they give you ... you do feel better.
That's pretty much it... I was in on Tues and out on Thurs afternoon.

Welcome Rebecca. I'm going up to the info session at OHSU on Monday. I've been to a few sessions here in Eugene, but I am tired of waiting for them to get their Center of Excellence approval for Blue Cross, so I'm going to OHSU instead.
Thanks Michele for the info on having surgery done at OHSU. I hope it won't be too long before I am there!
