psychiatrist's question
One thing I forgot to ask about.....the psych. asked a question about after surgery.
He said he wanted to know if I have thought about the after weight loss excess skin problem and how that may affect me.
I have been so focused on wellness and regaining energy and health after surgery I hadn't really examined that aspect. I wonder how bad a problem it really is.....any experiences?
I think that this seems to be a pretty big problem depending on your own cir****tances. I am pretty new.. only 6 weeks post op and so I dont know from experience yet but I think that the more weight you have to loose, your age, and several other factors depend on how much elasticity your skin has. The main board and I think there is a plastic surgery board as well. If you are new to message boards sometimes they refer to plastic surgery as plastics and PS. I also think that a lot has to do with your attitude. If you are okay with extra skin as long as the wieght is gone then you may not care but if you goal is to get into a bikini someday... you may care more. It is such a personal decision. Good luck and congratulations on being almost done!

Lowellian,
I'm almost 8 years post gastric bypass and I work for a bariatric surgeon. I tell our patients that they should not consider plastic surgery until they are at least 18 months post-op. You really won't know what you're results will be until then. Exercise helps along with weight training. I waited 5 years and then decided to have an abdominal plasty and the girls lifted. I'm very happy with the results. I'm excited for you but don't put the cart before the horse as they say. Just keep focused about learning to eat healthy and using your new tool as instructed by your surgeon. The best to you!

PS: There is a great plastic surgeon in Eugene: Dr. Daniel Lee
So much depends on your age and the distribution of your fat. I did not need any batwing work, for example but, boy, did I have an apron!
This sounds kind of like a trick question to me to determine how much you are thinking of looks vs health.
I'll take skin issues and the ability to do anything I want over obesity and filled to the brim with fat.
