I am new on here and have really enjoyed reading the messages and learing about this surgery. I have read about "fill" and do not know what that is, could someone please explain. I would appreciate it. I am considering the surgery and want to know what to expect.

Well, Chris, which surgery are you leaning toward? A fill only applies to lap banders. Because we have an adustable ring around our stomach, as we gain (yes, some of us do -- especially if we happen to get pregnant) or lose weight the ring can be adjusted with a special needle that adds or takes fluid out of a special resevoir, a port, that is just under our skin. We all have our ports in different locations -- the surgeons typically dictate the port location. If you want more information about a specific surgery, I suggest that you go to the individual forum for that type of surgery but I would also ask that you check out all of the types of surgery represented here. You just might find one that is a better fit for you physically and for your lifestyle. Good luck! Lori

Hi Lori, Thank you so much for your time, that is the best information that I have found yet, I am leaning towards the lap band but everything that I have looked up so far has not mentioned the fill part or anything about a resevoir, my sister and one of my best friends has had the RNY and I don't know that I would want that one. I am just starting to check out the surgery rout, nothing else has worked yet and my husband actually accepted this as an option which surprised me. Now I have a lot of research ahead. Thanks again!
