finally a call from the dr,, but it really scared me
well Dr Jan is on vacation, so his associate called me this morning, I told him about my diagnosis and my concern about weather I would still be able to have the WLS. buy the time I got off the phone with him I was histerical, He was taking about a colonectomy, having a bag on my side for a while and then having the WLS. OH MY GOD he scared me so badly I kept thinking that this is not what my GP said to me,, I was confused, I was sobbing and finally sat down on the couch and just kept saying to myself hes a surgon ,, his first thought is to cut,,, its ok hes a surgion he dosent know everything, I was so scared and paniced, then he called about hour lator to tell me he had talked to Dr Patterson and she said that If I was not taken to surgery right away its proubly was not surgical at this time, to keep taking the anitbiotics and come and see Dr Jan in 3 weeks well do a recheck and proubly schedule the surgery at that time,, WOW was he ever off base,, I am being goood I am on a liquid diet for 2 days,, still lots of pain but not as bad as it was, tonight is 2 days and so I ate half a dry turkey sandwich, bland but i think I feel a little better, all the drugs on liquids was tearing me up,, any way I just wanted to update,, share my bad experence, and ask for more prayer and support, please forgive the bad spelling and typing im not so good in the first place and add the pain and I really suck,,
I don't know who, exactly, you spoke to but that's too bad. They may be training up there because when I went in for my fill the Monday before Christmas Dr. Jan came in after another doc did my review.
I think that the one who called you was going after a worst case scenario and probably didn't have all of the facts, either.
I don't think diverticuli would be enough to prevent surgery. It may change the type of surgery they suggest for you (hey, lap band isn't all THAT bad, lol) or where they actually do the re-routing, though.
I hope you're feeling better today. My BIL has problems with diverticuli and has spent many a night thinking he was dieing in the ER. Poor guy. I don't really like him but I don't want to see anyone suffer, either, lol.
Anyway, try to not let any doc scare you. They're only human. If you don't like what you're being told, get another opinion, don't get upset. Ok, get angry and frustrated, but not sad.
Take care and heal up!
Lori
I am feeling better today, last night eating the sandwich was a good idea, stopped the burning in my stomach but having diarea today, that's ok at least I know things are working right?
not quite so much pain, I defenalty can feel a very sore spot in my colon, when things are passing I defenalty can feel it, but that is much better than constant pain like it was,
ok Lori What is a BIL? I just have to ask,
I took a shower and got dressed hoping to take a short walk today,, its is very cold outside though. ate a scrambled egg this morning and still ok,,
thanks guys for listening to my grumbling, its hard to talk to just anyone they just don't get it
Oh Kelly! How scared you must have been. I'm glad to hear that things aren't quite as bad as the surgeon originally made you feel. You were right in your thinking -- he's a cutter, and that's what he was thinking was necessary. I pray everything works out well for you. Be careful with your diet.
Linda
Thanks linda
I cant belive how much better I am today, I actually had to go back to the ER today because my son,,, decided to do a header on his snow board and seperated his shoulder, geeze these kids, Both of the nurses that cared for me were there and so sweet, both recegnised me,, asked how I was and was amazed to see me there for someone else,,I was such a mess when they saw me, I think these horable antibiotics are doing the trick to the infection along with tearing up my stomic, ohhh nelly they are burning my belly. I have eaten 3 very small meals today and so far so good. I consider it a trial for after WLS, maybe It will help me loose a few more pounds before surgery. I have never noticed that I can feel my Colon, when you have an infection in it you defenatly know what your colon feels like. every time something is working past the sore spot im breathing like Im in labor,, but it passes and every hour it hurts less, I am so thankful to be able to chat with everyone on here about these things,
Kelly
Kelly,
Sorry for your trouble! Hopefully you are on some antibiotics and are feeling better. Sometimes if you DO have Diverticulitis one of the little pockets can get infection and cause that kind of pain and trouble. I'm no medical authority at all, but my impression is that bypass surgery would not be ruled out because of that condition. It actually has helped many with IBS, and I would think if you do have the Diverticulitis doing surgery would allow for viewing and bypassing sections that are affected, whereas normally surgery wouldn't probably be done unless it got really seriously bad. I think you will be getting very good advice from Dr. Jan. The GI track is their specialty surgically and diagnostically. When my son had something wrong (not weight related) I took him to Dr. Hong.
The big news that got lost in your painful week is that you got approved!! That is great! Keep us posted on what's going on. Things are much more quiet now, a get together would be great.
