Hello: I am 4 days post op now and pleased to report that I had a very successful surgery. I am logging in under my daughter's name as I am still in the Portland area and cannot seem to log in under my own name. Dr. Patterson and the nursing staff at Legacy Good Samaritan are beyond first class. Dr. Mohammed, who is a fellow of Dr. Patterson, was very involved also, and actually was the one who checked me out of the hospital. I have been a little confused about what I can or should try to eat. The diatician saw me in the hospital and I thought everything was pretty clear but as soon as I got home I am sort of brain dead. I think the best I have managed to do so far(yesterday) was about 7 oz of protein drink (Unjury) and 32 oz of water. I have had yogurt twice and one ounce of grape juice a while ago. Any of you that went through Legacy Good Samaritan Obesity Clinic care to tell me if I am on the right track. I walked to the end of the block today and will again pretty soon. I also did my meds crushed in some yogurt and viactiva calcium. I intend to call on Tuesday Morning but since this group has been were I have gleaned most of my information, I think you will probably let me know sooner. The one thing I can say for sure. Even though there is pain, I would do this again in a second. Was not near the trama I thought it might be. My daughter had this surgery at OHSU on Nov. 7 and yesterday she went and bought some new jeans. Size 18 from a size 28 in November. She looks so good it is hard to believe she was that many sizes different 6 weeks ago. Jeanne

Did you have RNY? I had lap band (Dr. Jan). I know the diet is different. If you had RNY you may want to post this on the RNY forum and see what others have to say. For lap band I was on clear liquids for a week then full liquids/purees for another week (turned into two because I couldn't get an appointment the week before) before I was allowed mushies. The biggest point they drove home for me was that I was to get in 60 grams of protein a day. I hope you get the answers you need! Lori

Thanks Lori: I found my papers and I was not eating or drinking near enough. Today is going better as I feel more on track. I did have the RNY and I put the papers they gave me in the hospital in a different bag. I was trying to do it by memory. Hope this finds you having a wonderful Christmas. I think the four oz of cream of chicken soup I am planning to have will be the best Christmas Dinner ever. Jeanne

Jeanne Congratulations!! I am 2 weeks pre op. Hey, do you know a Phil & Sue McClure up in Fossil? I am Sue's cousin Lisa Smith from Eugene. If you know her, tell her HI from me. (I was actually born at that hospital) I am going to be very happy after the surgery is done. I cannot wait. I hope all goes well with mine, as I hope things continue to go well with you. WATER, WATER, WATER....... Lisa, from Eugene

Hi Lisa: Wow what a small world. Of course we know Sue and Phil. Sue and I have done lots of things over the years. Most recent was an exercise class trying to get ready for the surgery. Of course I did not tell anyone that was what I was doing it for but eventually they'll figure out when there is so much less of me. I am 7 days post op today and really feel like I turned another corner. Feeling pretty good and really got a good night's sleep last nigh****er, water is for sure the mantra. I am doing better on the water and I think on the protein. Good luck on your surgery. I am really convinced it is one of the best things I ever did. Jeanne

I am excited for you! I have just begun my journey toward surgery. Attended the info seminar & have filled out the paperwork - just waiting for my PCP's records to get to OHSU's Bariatric Center and get an appt scheduled to begin the steps. I have to go to Portland because of my insurance coverage. Wish I could get it done in Eugene (I work in Eugene and live in Springfield) -- but you do what you have to do. 2007 will be the first year I have had an insurance policy that will cover WLS. Hope all goes smoothly for you -- will look for your post-op posts!! Take care. Shirley
