Hi Honey, I'm Home.... LOL
Hi Linda,
I am doing pretty good today ... just a bit gassy but no real pain per se. Today was the first day that I took nothing for pain all day. Yesterday and the day before was just in the morning and before bed for the pain meds. I am going to take some before bed though.
Today, for breakfast I had cream of wheat; for lunch I had a protein shake; for dinner I had another small protein shake and some instant potatoes. Yes, I am still just eating the soft mushy foods and I cannot wait for the real food late next week after I see Dr Gorrin on Thursday. I did have to get another brand of protein today; I really did not care too much for the unflavored Unjury. I think it was the protein smell. I bought a strawberry protein from GNC and I mixed it with strawberry Crystal Light. Tomorrow I am gonna try and add some vanilla low-fat yogurt and some ice and make a smoothie. That really sounds nummy.
Thanks for checking on me. I will chat with you later.
I had bariatric surgery 7 years ago and have maintained my goal weight. As RN and bariatric treatment coordinator I'm very excited about your surgery. Gas will be part of your life after surgery. You can reduce the gas by reducing your carb intake. Also I recomend a heating pad applied to your abdomen after surgery. You can also take gas X. Heprin shots should never be given any where but your abdomen. I'm a little suprized that your nurse didn't know that. I'm also surprized about your diet. I hope you are getting enough protein. Dr. Tersigni recommends 90 grams every day of liquid protein drinks or soup mixes. We don't advance our patients diet for 4 weeks because we hope to change your eating habits and we don't want anything thicker than yogurt until your new stomach is well healed. You also need alot of protein or you will begin to lose muscle mass. We encourage protein every hour through out the day. I love working in bariatrics. Eight of my family members have had bariatric surgery with Dr. Tersigni. Some have chosen the lap band and others have had the roux en Y. Best of luck to you! I would have surgery again tomarrow.
