Just before surgery I wanted to eat too, becasue I knew I was in for the long haul of not eathing what ever I want when I want. I am 10 days post-op and right now it is not bad. I really don't feel hungry. I eat these few things that I can eat. I have to say it was really hard last night becasue my son bought some choc. candy and had left it on the table. I just wraped it up and put it away. I will be asking him to keep it in his car from now on. He keeps that locked? Even though I wanted it I knew I could not eat it or I would get really sick. So it is easier (a bit) to say no. I hope some others further out will give you some advice too. (It also helps to focus on the weight loss--so far I have lost 18 pounds!) Odetta

Well, the good news is that the surgery prevents you from gorging like you used to, but for some people who are hard core, even pain and vomiting don't deter them. I am careful to pay attention to that. Honestly, I have been in counseling since before I had surgery....actually for something unrelated. But it has helped me tremendously - I have a wonderful counselor. Still, there are times when you want to cocoon and eat. Over time you will hopefully develop strategies that work for you. For me, that is to eat some protein first before I go noshing all over the place. It helps fill you up and satiate you, so you are less prone to absent minded eating. But there are times - especially the week before my period, where sugar is a huge draw. I had to learn to accept the cravings and for me, I give in and try not to overdo. I'm trying to develop a "normal" relationship with food where I eliminate those things that I don't care about anyway (sugared sodas, etc) and allow other things I always felt deprived of when dieting. It keeps me from gorging on them. Anxiety will manifest itself somehow though, so be cautious and see a counselor if you need to. Some people who have wls will find they end up alcoholics or picking up old bad habits to cope. Be mindful and keep grounded with someone. It helps more than I can express. Dina

This too will pass. I often find the next day to be as good as the day previously was bad. Hormones, family life, cycle of life, etc. it can all get to you sometimes! Don't take it as a sign that you are not ready. The changes I have taken to heart happened before, during and long after my surgery. I certainly wasn't all "cured" and well behaved once I committed to my surgery decision. Being mindful of what bothers you and finding ways to cope other than food will be a priority from now on. Hope you have a better week this week! Patty
