Newbie - United Health Care Insurance

Hey eveyone this is my first post, I have decided that I want to look into having WLS (Lap Band). I will be attending a seminar on December 7th about the surgery. But in the mean time I was wondering if anyone who has had the Lap Band Surgery has United Health Care for thier insurance and how they dealt with it. I have not contacted them yet, but I heard they do cover the surgery, but I was wondering if they have requirements. Thanks, Beth

Hi again, I used United Health care for my Lap-Band. They require the following: 18 years of age BMI of over 40 5 years medical documentation of that BMI You must use a Network Hospital and Surgeon Pre-approval done via a medial review pre-determination. If you are going through the Oregon Weight Loss Center at Legacy Good Sam Hospital the staff there will help you with contacting and providing the information needed via United Health. With my employers coverage I am able to choose my own Dr without a referral. You might have to check with your benefits Dept to check your individual coverage. Overall I was very happy with United Health and how they handled my process. I would be more than happy to speak with you personally if you have more questions. Hi Beth I have united health care. I called them and they said if the Dr recommends this proceedure for me, then they would approve it. They didn't have any waiting periods or requirenments that I'm aware of. As far as i can tell, people have had good luck with them.
