Newbie

I've been browsing but I am still new to the board. I'm on dialysis...anyone here going through something similar? I am also diabetic.

Hi Lennie, Although not on dialysis, I am still considered to be a diabetic. I haven't been on any meds since my surgery however and my numbers are very good. I had surgery 19 months ago and have lost approx 135 lbs. I say approx because I haven't gotten on a scale for a couple of months. I have a tendancy to "disagree" with the numbers on a scale so sometimes it's better for me to wait until I'm in my Dr. office to see what it says....I can get WAY too caught up in numbers rather than how my clothing fits and how I feel. Lennie - I don't have your problem, but I do know a woman locally who had a kidney transplant about 30 years ago and had her surgery about a year ago. It wasn't complication free but she is doing well and just had her tummy tuck. Kind of a reverse of what you are going through, I know, but that's the only thing I can think of. As for the surgery, I am wondering if they think the RNY is too invasive if maybe you could do a lap band to help you lose? Good luck! Dina

Yes, my nephrologist wants me to have the lap band. You can gain a lot of weight after a kidney transplant because of all the meds they put you on. I am excited however, I was just told I passed the heart stress test.

A Center of Excellence designation allows clinics to perform surgery and get money from Medicare (and other reasons but this is a big one). Are you looking in to the Legacy Good Sam program w/Drs. Patterson, Hong and Jan? If so, I was banded back in Oct. by Dr. Jan. They do great work. Let me know if you have any questions. I'd be glad to help. Lori
