cost of surgery and other questions?

Hello, I was advised by my nutrition consultant to log on here for questions. Does anybody know of a finance company for the lapband surgery? Also, would like to hear from others regarding the results of lap band. I'm here in Oregon and I would love any recent info on ODS insurance dealings? Thanks, Jamie

Hi Jamie, American General Finance and Capital One both do financing for medical. I understand lap band runs about $12,000 around here, but there are other places within the US where it is only about $8K. You might want to check around after you have secured financing. Only problem as I would see it would be fills--and of course a good support group and follow through. It's something to think about anyway. I know that lap band can be very effective. Prelim results show that those choosing this method of weight loss can expect to lose about 55% of their excess weight and keep about 85% of what they have lost off. That compares with RNY of 70% of excess weight off and 75% of what was lost staying off 5 years later. Now these are only mean statistics. ANYONE who has the will and desire to lose 100% of their excess weight will do so--and keep it off. I am 19 months out from RNY and have lost 135 lbs. I have lost 73% of my excess weight. I still wish to lose 30 more lbs. I AM still losing, but it is going much more slowly at this point. Welcome to the site. You will gain a lot of valuable information here and also on the main board. Thanks Trisha. I will look into American General. I'm going through all the pre-lim stuff and hope my insurance will cover the surgery ( I have a BMI of 39 and high BP and cholesterol). I originally decided to go with the lap band, but I'm think more and more about the RNY. Thanks for your advice. I'm sure I'll be a regular member here.
