i'm feeling kind of depressed today. I had my surgery a week and a half ago and got on the scale this morning and have only dropped a half a pound. I'm doing what I've been told to do with the liquid diet but don't seem to be going anywhere. Has anyone had this kind of experience after surgery? What did you do about it? I don't want to discourage anyone from having the surgery, but is this normal after surgery? Speak to me! Thank you, Nancy

Nancy, I didn't experience this, but I know that many, many others have. Your body was pumped full of drugs during the surgery, which can cause you to retain water. Also, we all experience recovery differently. As long as you are following your doctor's orders, have faith. You will lose several pounds in one day, at times. It will happen. Stay away from the scale for now. It will only depress you. If you continue to feel depressed ( a common situation following surgery) contact your doctor. Remember... sip, sip, walk, walk! This is just the beginning of an amazing journey. You will do fine. Right now, just concentrate on good self care and following your doctor's regime. Keep us posted! Joy

Nancy I am 6months out and remember that when I came hame I was 4 days out and weighed and had actually gained 3lbs but by 10 -12 days out I last like 10lbs within 2 days then at 2.5 weeks I stalled almost 2weeks.So just keep up the good work and don't worry to much put away the scale for a week or so (I know easier said then done I am a SELF proclaimed Scale-Ho! Nancy, Yes, yes, yes! This exact same thing happened to me too! I came home from the hospital and had gained 15 pounds. I was absolutely mortified!!! But around the week and a half mark, I started losing. IT WILL COME OFF! I know it's hard to be patient and it seems like such a horrible thing to have happen. Just make sure you drink your water and I promise you, it will come off! Deanna

Nancy.....Oh my girl...I'm 6 weeks out and feel like I'm on a roller coaster. First couple of weeks, didn't loose anything, then dropped 10 + lbs just whammy, then gained 1 lbs then lost 6+ lbs, etc, etc, and now this week I seem to be staying the same again. I have limited myself to way only on Wednesday mornings. That's hard to do, but I'm sticking to it pretty good. One wonders why in the world you wouldn't loose weight every single week, but it doesn't happen that way I guess...I'm down almost 40 since I began the journey and down 22 since surgery and Dr. Hong said last week at check up that I was right on track and to be a little gentler with myself in regards to the weight loss. It will come. Hope this helps. Terri

Thanks Terri, its just so heartbreaking to have to go through this kind of weight loss yo-yo. I know I'm still a little depressed from the surgery and the soreness, I mean its only been two weeks since surgery but I so want this to work and am staying focussed. I will try your advice and weigh myself just once a week; it will be better for my brain. I see Dr. Jan on the 21st of August and if things don't happen by then, well, they just will. Patience is not one of my virtues! Thanks, Nancy

trust the process. i stalled at about six weeks and only dropped 3 lbs in 3 weeks. look at the big picture! i only weigh once a week, so I won't freak out about those daily fluctuations. trust the process. breathe.
