Open RNY at Kaiser?

I went to my surgery orientation on Friday for Kaiser. Something I found out is that Kaiser will not do the laproscopic RNY. They only do the open surgery. I am a little more concerned about the healing of an open incision vs the laproscopic. Can anyone who had open RNY give me some advise as to what I should expect? Thank you!

I had open RNY at Kaiser on 03/31. Since I have never had Lap surgery I can't compare, but it has been my experience the the surgery incision is the least of my worries. I was back to work in 2.5 weeks and feel great at 16 weeks. Hope this helps!

That is great! Thank you. I am happy to hear you are feeling so well. I had lap surgery when they removed my gall bladder a few years ago but not at kaiser. I was a little worried about a big incision. How big is your incision?

Hi Sarah, I had my surgery open and what Kasier said was that there is less chance of infection and plus, no one there does the open. My scar was thin, then when I had the tt, it was removed and replaced by a new one. I didnt have any problems AT ALL and was back to work in 2 weeks. My PERSONAL feeling is that they can see better with it wide open!! the scar went to above the belly button to just the breast bone! good luck and feel free to email with Kasier questions. I had my RNY on 2-16-04, tt on 11-5 and then more ps on the 13th of next month, all with Kaiser. Sarah G -235.
