Liver shrinking diet for pre-op???

What is the liver shrinking diet for pre-op? Help! I have surgery in four days!

Nancy, A lot of sites I have read talk about shrinking the liver before surgery, and most seem to indicate that you do a high protein, very low fat liquid diet. You might want to research more on this yourself, since I am pre-op :P and thus haven't done it myself. What I understood was that they are trying to get as much fat off your liver as possible prior to surgery, thus minimizing the chances of changing from Laproscopic procedure to an open one. Something to do with the size of the liver and their field of view and ability to work. Hope this helps, and good luck You will be awesome. Michele
