I live in Aumsville and would like to hear from Salem area RNYs and their experiences. My surgery is set for July 21 and am a little anxious but am excited about losing the weight I've been carrying for too long. Please e-mail me and let me know how things went for you. Thank you, Nancy.

I think there are several from Salem here but I'm in Medford. I know Terri just had surgery but she probably isn't ready to spend a lot of time online just right now. Dina

I live in West Salem. I had my surgery on May 25. Things have been good. I have my good days and bad days. I recently found out that I had a stricture which probably accounts for the bad days. I have lost 22 pounds (from May 25 to June 30). As far the procedure itself, it went great. I had Dr. Hong from Legacy and he is awesome! I had very little pain afterwards. Most of the pain came about a week later and it was muscular. I am only 40 days post-op and I have been sleeping on my stomache since I was only 3 weeks post-op! Its not near as bad as you might think. Anyway, good luck!

Hi Nancy......Congrats on our upcoming surgery. We will be just one month apart. Are you having surgery here in Salem, or using someone else. I used Legacy with Dr. Hong in Portland, they are a great group....I've done well in the last 2 weeks I think, I haven't taken one thing for pain since the morning they let me out of the hospital. I did not do well with the Morphine, the Codiene or the Vacadin, so I just gave up. I tried liquid Tylonel and yuk, it's all so gross...but buttom line is, obviously the pain was not so great that it wasn't tolerable without medication...when you get home from the hospital, get your protein in. It makes a huge difference and keep sipping. Keep us informed on how you are doing and ask as many questions as you like. My daughter lives in Aumsville. Small world isn't it. Terri

I'm using Dr Jan for my surgery. I am so anxious and excited about getting on board. Let's see today is the 10th so I have 11 more days. Oh my gosh! I'm moving around all over the place and staying busy so I don't dwell on it. I'm not scared of the pain, I lived through an amputation so I'll just do what I have to do. Most of the stuff makes me kind of nauseous and out of it and I can't stand the feeling. I'm all set for my protein and will start tomorrow on the drinks and restricted diet. Do they walk you with a walker or how do they do it at the hospital? I'm all set at home for activity. Walking will be my primary source and when I can I will swim at the Stayton pool. I hope things are going well for you and I think its great that we are a month apart so you can continue to fill me in, if you will. There is a support group in Salem and she told me they meet once a month in the basement of Salem Hospital. I am going to try to join that group after experiencing one of the Legacy ones. The travel during the winter is what I worry about. Anyway, have a great day and like you told me keep sipping. Nancy

Hi Nancy, Congratulations! I live in Keizer, work in Salem and had RNY surgery done 4/28/06. It is the greatest thing I have done for myself and I am a much happier healthier person. I had a very quick and easy recovery because I kept moving and walking right after surgery and I think it helped me to heal quicker but I had been exercising quite a bit pre-op. I wish you well, Mary

Wendy, so good to hear from you. How is it going, its been, what?, 3 days? I have so many questions, where to begin. How was the hospital? Were the nurses attentive? How were the walking experiences? How was your pain and was pain medication readily available? Were the nurses responsive to your needs? How was Dr. Jan through all of it? Did he visit regularly? I've learned so much more about all of it from this website. How about you? I know we could call the office and get some sort of answer to the question(s). I always had to talk to the receptionist. I didn't ask to talk to a nurse, maybe I should, do you think? I kind of feel that their info is too run of the mill and not as in-depth as info from this website. I just feel like they've left me hanging until the surgery. Maybe I have too much anxiety and am impatient about my turn. Really, I am not a basket case just too many what ifs. I do hope you are starting to feel fine and that things are running smoothly. Please keep me posted on your recovery and good luck on being a "loser". Nancy
