Hi
I too had a slip and talked to the hospital dietitian about it. She suggested I refocus and do the best I could. Physical hunger led to the slip. I have no idea why hunger rages, then days like today I am not hungry at all. So frustrating.
Getting down on yourself isn't helpful. If I may be so bold as to suggest you look at this as a learning opportunity and determine why you had the slip. If it wasn't physical hunger but emotional eating that may be something you want to examine more closely.
Two thoughts:
Have you tried cross-posting this on the RNY board? I think there is a lady on there with info about SIBO who could maybe respond.
What vitamins/supplements are you taking?
well to clairfy i did the the 4 optifast packets each day but also ate stuff thats not on the list like wrap first time then snack from 711 then caesar salad the second time after that i stuck to the diet eating only greens and optifast and water
Hello all!
I had my Roux-en-Y surgery in February of 2015. I was 300 pounds and how holding steady for the last two years anywhere between 165 and 170. This morning i was 167. My lowest weight was three years after surgery and that was 153.
In January of this year I began to have diarrhea daily, to the point where I was going upwards of 10 times a day. My family doctor prescribed me Viberzi and I had some success with it up until about June. I am now on Zaxine for a 14 day course. My doctor thinks I have SIBO - small intestinal bacterial overgrowth so we are trying the Zaxine. I am 4 days into the Zaxine and I realize I will have to give it more time but things are no better.
I am wondering if anyone has had the same problem as me and if so, what did you do and did you get better? Any tips/tricks?
I have tried:
Metamucil capsules, Align probiotics, unsweetened Kefir, Greek and Skyr Yogurt with probiotics, kimchi and apple cider vinegar all with really no lasting results.
Any advice or suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
It was long time ago, but I still remember i was hungry on Optifast. Optifast I was on had a lot of carbs and sugars per serving. I wan on a liquid diet for 4 weeks, so in week 2-3-4 I used other low carb, higher proteins drinks approved by my center.

Optifast is meant to shrink your liver to give room for the doctor to operate on your stomach safely. It could be bad if the doctor opens you up and he can't complete you surgery because you didn't stick to the opti. I would be honest and talk to your doctor and let him know what has happened, for your own safety.
I have heard of people having a bite of something here and there without having any issues but I don't know of anyone that had whole meals. Please talk to your doctor.
I have been on the optifast 900 diet since the 7th and the first few days were not so bad other than some side effects but i have had three occasions where i did not stick to the diet and ended up going out and buying food and i feel like i've let myself down that i could not stick to this diet. Has anybody else come across this situation in their experience and would this effect the surgery in anyway?
Thank you for your comment. Keep up the good work yourself!!
Yes I am well aware of supplementation actually. My bone loss has not changed since year 2 so I am not osteoporotic.

Congratulations Dawn. !!!
Ostopenia sucks, but sometimes the decline can be stopped or even slowly reverse.
Most docs don't tell you that, because frankly most of them really don't know any better. Even the ones that should know.
Just taking calcium, even the good one, may not help much. The bones stricture if much more complicated than that. We also need magnesium, often as much as Calcium. And other essential minerals like strontium, boron, etc. Small amount, but still without them the strong bone matrix is not going to happen.
To absorb Calcium and Magnesium, we need the proper structure of them, plus a good level of Vit D3 to help absorption. I strive on my D to be 50-70. Not too low, not too high.
Calcium Citrate is supposed to be good for us, but there are other forms that can be also good. Magnesium is a different story- most magnesium affect the bowels: oxide, citrate, malate, etc. There are other forms of magnesium, like glycinate - that suppose to be better for absorption.
BUt once you are able to absorb the minerals - specially calcium - you may need to supplement vit K2. Vit K2 is critical - it tells our body where to put the calcium and other minerals.
Just taking calcium and be able to absorb it - can backfire, if the body start putting it in veins, joints, muscles... causing calcium build up. WE NEED K2 to dirent the calcium to the bones.
I am 59, I had body DEXA scan done app 3 years ago and recently. My bones density was and it is very good. At my age, and considering I don't take a lot of calcium citrate, but I take a lot of magnesium and vit K2. I take Mag oxide/citrate to help with my BM, and I take mag bi-glycinate, and mg malate to have for my bones and muscles.
I take larger dose K2 in dry form (K2 is fat soluble and even dry form i know I malabsorb even now, 11 years post op.
