Pain in Upper Stomach
Hi,
The last month I've been having this pain off and on, it's pain in the upper abdomen under my rib cage. It comes and goes - last night it woke me up at 4am and I couldn't get comfortable to get back to sleep for awhile. It felt more of a cramping last night but I am aching there this morning.
I do not have a gallbladder so it's not that.
Not sure if I should be calling the doctor or not (centre/family doctor/surgeon)?

If something hurts enough to wake you up, probably best to go see your doctor or if it worsens go to the ER. Hope you feel better.

do not want to scare you but i have this pain off and on for a long time. first time i was 15 months and after 9 months of pain and repeated ER visits with no answers i went to my surgeon and he did exploratory surgery and repaired two internal hernias. I am now 3.5 years post op and its happening again i am scheduled for more exploratory surgery on Oct 2nd to look for internal hernia or twisting of the bowels. If you are being woken up from pain its not normal please go to your surgeon and find out whats going on.
I've called Windsor (my centre) and left a message. I have left a message for my family doctor as well. I'll be contacting my surgeon shortly as Windsor doesn't tend to get back to messages fast.
It's worse after eating. I had some cheese and a pepperette and some cashews today and it's aching. Hard to concentrate on working.

Hope you get to the bottom of it very soon. If in any doubt, don't hesitate to visit the ER.

Hey Jo how have you been?
I had that exact pain last month. Worse after eating, woke me up at night, really painful. Off and on for a couple of weeks but finally got so bad on a Sat night so I ended up going to emerg.
Xray and blood tests revealed some impacted stool. Took laxative and drank a ton of water and a couple days later it was cleared up. I didnt feel like I was constipated as I had been having daily movements but turns out that is what it was.
Maybe try that while youre waiting to hear back couldnt hurt!

Yes and the general surgeon who consulted with me seemed very knowledgeable. She also consulted with an Internist. They took my pain seriously and seemed to be aware of common complications. I felt in good hands. And they did get the diagnosis right lol.

Good! I took a laxative Thursday night but haven't had much of anything out for a good be since Friday morning. I just took one so maybe that'll help. We will see.
