Revisions in Ontario

I recently have moved to Ontario, and was wondering if anyone in this group has ever had a revision done here in the province? I was sleeved in 2014 and over the past 2 years I have had issues with GERD, which is becoming worse. Over the past month, I have also started to become very bloated, nauseated, and have to burp tons after I eat nearly anything except simple carbs. Sadly doritos are my friend for eating, but I am gaining weight and it is killing me :(

Thanks

Dani

I'd go post this on the ontario board on facebook as well. Your family doctor should also be able to refer you to the bariatric network.

Hi Dani,

Welcome! I'm sorry to learn you're having problems. The Ontario Bariatric Network (OBN) certainly would be your best bet for a revision... it's not uncommon after sleeve with what I imagine you're describing.

As the previous poster suggested, you'll need to get a referral from your family doctor. Out of curiosity, where in Ontario did you move to?

So an interesting point: I have also been feeling the same symptoms as you: nauseous, burping, gas and maybe even bloating when I eat anything except simple carbs. I have one additional symptom: excruciating shoulder pain. It may be my gallbladder. I have had an ultrasound and it is distended and there is a "large amount of sludge". But because I don't have stones or abdominal pain, my Centre wants to also check for anything in my digestive tract, to rule that out before acting on my gallbladder. So on May 10, I am having a gastroscopy. They will check for an ulcer, hiatial hernia, and a leak to the connections made during surgery.

If anything shows up on the gastroscopy, they will fix/treat that. Otherwise, they will remove my gallbladder.

So... I suggest a couple of things. 1- if you are going to seek immediate treatment, please go to an emergency hospital that has a Bariatric centre. We can help you find one in your city, or the closest to you. What you have may require specialized care. 2- ask your GP for a referral into the OBN and seek assistance from the Centre they refer you to. 3- self advocate. Doctors don't always take us as seriously as they should... you know what you're feeling isn't right. Get the help you need!! Keep pushing the system until you have answers.

Keep posting here. We will help as much as we can. Good luck and be well. Welcome again!! :)

Hi Oneatatime

Thanks for the reply.

I moved to Windsor, and I know that they do not have a lot of services there as a lot of medical is sent to London. I will be seeing my Dr when I am back in town (I work up in Yukon), and hopefully I will at least get a gastroscopy to see what's going on. I had my gallbladder removed in 2007 so thankfully I don't have those issues.

What hospitals in the southern region are considered bariatric?

Oh that's good about not having to deal with your gallbladder. I heard Windsor is opening a clinic, which would be great. I am not sure if my info is 100% accurate, but I hope so. I think you're right about needing to go to London for now. You can always start a new thread about that. We have quite a few folks from the Windsor area here and I believe there are even some local meet ups too. A quick search of this forum should give you those answers, but a new thread will allow you to meet them. :)

Good luck. Feel better quickly and hopefully others will chime in with some valuable info for you!!

Thanks for the info :)

I hope that everything is sorted out with what you are going through. I would love to know what your test results come out as.

Hotel D'ieu Grace in Windsor is the OBN for the London area. London hospitals do not do bariatric surgery yet. I did read somewhere that they may be doing so in the future.

Guelph, Hamilton and Toronto are where people from southwestern Ontario are sent - to the best of my knowledge.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

Your in luck as Windsor has a bariatric clinic. The only thing they do not do is surgery. For that u get referred to London or Guelph. It took me about 2 months to get in to the clinic after being referred from my family dr. Good luck
