Crushing calcium?

Absolutely cru**** or use a pill splitter and chop it up as small as you can get it.

When I was first out from surgery I crushed pills, or used chewables or used my pill splitter and split all the big pills down into small manageable pieces. To this day I struggle with big pills and still use my pill splitter.

I know you are watching your carbs and BRAVO on that! But you are doing so well with your food you can afford the few carbs in your pills. And for the record I never counted my pills as part of my daily calorie intake. I know they had a small amount of calories and carbs but since I have to do this for the rest of my life I didn't count it but that's just me.

Since year 3 I have been on the patches. I do add in extra oral D3 and B12 which I get from Costco.

Good luck!

I used a mortar and pestle today and crushed it...I will definitely use a pill splitter over time. Interesting about not adding carbs from pills/meds, I wasn't sure what to think as even my chewable vitamins have a few carbs. They're sneaky little buggers and are in everything lol.

Hope crushing it helped Stitch. And yes there is some calories and carbs in everything, kinda sucks but it is what it is.

I also haven't been counting the carbs/calories in vitamins. I'll be on them for life, so it's not like I can "skip" it. I think I read that when I was pre-op on this site.

I hope you can find a solution that works for you.

Patches? For calcium?

Can you give some more info on that? Cause the sounds like a great idea long term.

Hi Jenkh,

There is a webiste called "PatchMD" based out of the USA. They have all kinds of patches. I have been wearing them since year 3 so just shy of 1.5 years. My labs are great!

They have a package now called "Bariatrics Basics 1" and Bariatric Basics 2" I use the Baritatric Basics 2.

I get a Multivitamin patch, an Iron patch, a B12 patch and a Vitamin D3 & Calcium patch (this is a 2 in 1).

Those are the four main vitamins we need to all take post surgery. I got tired of taking a gazillion pills per day so I started using the Patches.

If you sign up for their email newsletter you often get a "code" for 30% off or 40% off the price. I use the 40% off and have a standing monthly order. A sleeve of patches lasts for one month. Its in US dollars so by the time I add in shipping and covert to CDN dollars it costs me $80 a month. A lot of people might find that steep but I can't stand taking vitamins and having to time everything and since my labs have been so good I am sticking with it.

I wear the patches (they are about the size of a loonie or smaller) on different parts of my body so that one area does not get irritated. So my belly, my R shoulder, my L shoulder, my R hip, my L hip.

PatchMD also does many other patches and the are not just for bariatric patients they are for anyone who does not want to swallow or can't swallow pills.

I know a few "normies" who use the sleep starter patch and the glucosamine and condritoin patch, they love it.

Check it out

I have had four bone mass density tests done, one for each year I have been post op, the results are excellent with no changes.

I used liquid in the beginning and just gagged it down. As soon as I could I started using my pill splitter. Whoo hoo! I'm 9 weeks out now and I can swallow all my meds/supplements in their full form. Liberating to say the least. LOL

You're brave lol! It makes me gag so much I want to throw up. Decided it's not for me but I'm impressed you choked it down for all that time.
