How soon did you go back to work?

I feel as Canadians we are lucky. If need be we could go on medical EI if complications and 3 weeks paid vacation is the minimum in Ontario now etc. I was on another WLS site and one person from the US went to work after 4 days!

For me, I have a high pain tolerance. In 2016 I had surgery. I got a note for 3 weeks. I went back to work the next day and didn't fill the pain meds prescription. If I wasn't loopy from the anesthesia, I probably could have gone back to work the same day. I don't expect that with WL surgery, but with a desk job and my previous experiences with surgeries, assuming no complications, I would like to go back after 2 weeks. However, I'll take the note for the full 6 weeks and play it by ear.

Good to hear from the perspectives of people who took a short period of time and those who took longer periods time (or plan to).

I took three weeks off but could have gone back after two (I have a desk job). I was glad for the third week, though, because I was still pretty tired at that point.

Hi Violet

  • I had my RNY surergy on the 12/20/2010 and went back to the office 01/03/2011 (2 weeks);
  • Breast reduction in October 2012 - have taken free for 2 weeks;
  • Tummy tuck in August 2013 - have taken free for 3 weeks.

For me personally, the tightening operations were more burdensome. Not because of the pain but because of the long scars. The movement is severely restricted for a long time.

I would also like to apologize if my English sounds a little rough now and then - but my mother tongue is German and my English is anything but perfect.

I took 4 full weeks off (aside from my mom duties - at the time my daughter was 2 - my mom helped me with her)

Could I have returned to work after 2-3 weeks? Absolutely - but I had the option of taking 4 weeks and so I did and I don't regret it at all. I wanted to give myself the time to adjust to my new tool, and I used that time to recover, sleep, walk, sip and occasionally watch Netflix - something I don't ever do :) it kind of felt like a mini vacation after about day 4

I lasted about 8 days then went back. I'm kinda limiting myself to 8 hr days but I'm a systems developer so it's very non strenuous.

I think the right answer is you will know when it's time to go back to work.

I had surgery on February first and I am back to work full time as of yesterday. I wish I had more time off because I still have no energy.
