Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. I'm really not used to having so many people willing to support me ... or maybe I just have never allowed anyone to support me before. Either way, it feels pretty good.

Welcome Jennifer. I've been posting on this forum for almost 4 years, and it's a wonderful group of people here. The vets generously give their time to help us.

For me, life after surgery is different. Life is better. Not perfect, but better. We all struggle with cravings and that doesn't go away because you have surgery. Most start to struggle right at the end of their honeymoon phase post surgery. You can eat more, old habits can return, old cravings return. It's important to have a plan before the surgery on how you will deal with these issues.

We're here for you. I look forward to seeing your posts.

Thank you for the advice. I have added "making a post-honeymoon plan" to my journal as something I need to tackle. It makes the waiting time go faster when I have something to work on. I still feel like I'm moving forward.

Hi Jennifer.

I am Dawn and I'm also from Windsor. I had my roux en y surgery 11 years ago. Hubby had his about 6 years ago. I run the Windsor support group and you should make a point to come out some time.

I also have B.Ed and while the first year was easy, past that point it became a challenge again. So that's good that you have done some pre-work. I did the BANA program at 2

years out when I started struggling.

Its going to be a life long battle but I know that I could. It have kept off 140 lbs for 11 years without surgery.

Message me anytime.

Hi Dawn! I have seen several of your posts on here and I was hoping to connect with you. Could you send me the details on the support group (when and where?) At this stage I am most comfortable seeking support on here, but eventually I will work up my nerve to do it "in public" and I love that the opportunity is there for me. It is reassuring to know that however things turn out, I won't be doing this alone.

Hi Jennifer and welcome!

Lots of support in here.

I was terrified that I was going to be rejected because of my mental illness however, being honest with the psychiatrist showed him that I was truly ready for surgery. I even shared a tear or two with him- more shock and relief from our convo than anything else.

As for the process, I thought of it more as a long car ride with some stops at rest stations. Eventually I will get to where I am going. I'm just taking the scenic route.

Enjoy the ride!
