Finally reached my GOAL!

Congratulations! You hit goal; that is soooo amazing!

I also weighed in at 179.8 and now have everyone telling me not to lose more weight and I'm only 5'4", so quite a bit shorter than you and I'm nowhere near ready to stop either. If I go by the BMI chart, for my height I am still obese. I think people carry an image of us as we used to look in their mind's eyes, and when they see us now the comparison is so drastic and the change happens so fast that it freaks them out. It's totally our choice on when to stop.

Pre-Op Visit: Jan. 10, 2017, weight 304, surgeon: Dr. David Lindsay, St. Joe's, Toronto

1st Day of (3 weeks worth of) Optifast: Jan. 11, 2017

Surgery Date: Feb. 1st, 2017

Congratulations Angela. Our weight loss is a journey and I think we need to listen to our own bodies, our healthcare team through the bariatric clinic and our G.P. who tends to know us better. My doctor and I set a goal at 175 for us to review my blood work, measure and have a discussion. I know that I will continue and that he considers it my decision and not his. I would like his feedback though and I know he wants what's best for me - always.

The journey continues with no set destination or magic number in mind. None of us want to go back and we all strive towards the best health we can have in our various stages of life. Work your program and continue. This journey is for life!

congrats!

I can relate to the coworker and other's comments. as soon as I hit the overweight marker i was being told it was "ok to stop". I stopped when I wanted to...Which for me was body fat based, not weight/bmi and was and is no one else's business.

Same here. I'm 5'9 as well and my cousin and mom both told me this past week to stop. I'm at 176.5 right now. I'd like to lose another 10-15lbs but we will see what happens. It's slowed down for sure.

Its all personal. I also see myself some days as the fat girl. Some days not so much. It's such a mind game.

Congrats and keep up the great work!!

Congrats on reaching goal!! That's awesome!!!

I think people mean well, when they say that you shouldn't lose anymore weight. I think a lot of us struggle with still seeing that bigger girl we've seen for so long in the mirror, its hard for us to notice all the big changes that have occured weight wise.

My Mom and I were just having this conversation last week, as she was asking how I feel with the weight loss, and how I see myself. I said I feel better of course, and I know I have lost weight, but I still feel obese (and yes my BMI would say I still am). She said you don't look obese anymore. What are mother's for right? lol

I do have a lot of people saying when they ask me how much more weight I want to lose and they say that's too much. Again, I think they mean well, and they see us as we are now, so I take it as a compliment...even though I don't agree.

Again, wonderful news on reaching goal. Whatever you decide, lose more weight or start maintenace you've reached your goal and you should be very proud of yourself!
