The evil lapband... Glad it is gone but would love to spread the word.

CTV did another segment on the failure that is the Lapband and the impact it has on our medical community.

I had mine removed after just over 9 years on September 29th. I cannot tell you how great it feels to have it out. I am still tender in the removal areas and my port was removed via open cut. I did end up in the hospital an extra day and was informed that the encapsulation of the band and port was one of the worst, if not worst that they had seen.

Awww, I'm so sorry your situation was so bad and you had that (lapband) experience.

This message does need to get out, you're right, because bands are still legal and still being administered regularly as a weight loss tool. I considered one many years ago, and but but for how cost prohibitive it was, I'm certain I would have gotten one.

So... where are you taking your message? :)

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.

I am also sorry for your ordeal and am glad that you had yours removed. The administer at our local clinic was just talking about two co-workers who had it done, have since had it removed, and are each about $15,000 in debt. I have said, numerous times on this site, that I am thankful to the taxpayers of Ontario who have blessed me with this surgery and, keeping this in mind as well as many other factors, don't plan on screwing it up by taking it for granted or not following my program. I am NOT in debt, I am in MUCH better health and I was taken care of by professionals who are WELL TRAINED through a proven bariatric program.

I am also spreading the word and will use your experience as a general example. Thank you for sharing.

Linda

I've heard nothing but bad things about the lap band, and haven't heard any long-term success stories. All I've heard about it is that it makes eating and digesting very difficult (i.e. difficulty swallowing, indigestion) and that substantial weight loss doesn't occur.
