3rd Week Stall - Since it isn't talked about as much here

So I am in the dreaded 3 week stall. It has been since last Wednesday (18th). I have gone down half a pound and up half a pound daily since then. I was panicking a little that I was doing something wrong or my thyroid had crashed again (getting blood work done tomorrow for that). I went over to the RNY forum and they eased my concerns. Apparently it is quite a common place to have your first stall. Still I am upping my excercise a bit and making sure I get in all my water. I have been good with weighing/measuring and tracking so I know I always get my protein in. I did get a little high with carbs (30g) so I am making sure I am under 20g to get things moving again.

Who else from the post-surgery and veterans had the 3 week stall? What other points are common stall points? What did you do to to try to break the stall?

I'm 6 yrs post RNY. My first stall was at 3 weeks. Your body is in shock thinking that it has to hang on to every calorie. Don"t worry the scale will move. Just continue with protein and water. Take a deep breath. I had many stalls but lost over 100 lbs in 6 months.

I have been pretty much stalled for about three weeks, since three weeks. I am working hard not to let it define my efforts.

This is a tough go for sure some days! But I am still doing what I do. And I know the scale will catch up. Hopefully soon. :)

From my experience, weight loss is not linear, it goes in steps. I think it's so that your body can catch up by rebalancing fluid. You're doing everything right and the scale will start moving again. Stalls are part of the process.

My worst stall came when I was waiting to hit onederland. My body just didn't want to go there and I gained and lost the same 3 pounds for months. Those are the struggles that keep me on track now. I never want to have to go through that again.

Rebalancing fluid makes a lot of sense. My body has always held on to a lot of fluid (even though I drink a lot of water and always have... it's just how I "work"). When you explain it like this, it makes sense why I'm a slow loser, always, and why stalls tend to hit me easily. Again, I need to stay vigilant in my vow to myself to be in this for the long haul, that the weight will come off in due time, that my tool does work, and press on. :)

I agree wholeheartedly with C.C. - weight loss, especially through WLS - is in steps and the stall is just part of the process. Leslie said it as well - when you look at an entire six month period, you see dramatic and incredible weight loss. Time and patience is key and you KNOW if you are sticking to your eating plan and trying to get in some exercise through walking or just plain moving. If you are doing everything right and the scale isn't budging, stop getting on for a bit, measure, and know that you are achieving - whether the scale agrees or not. All scales are male by the way - lol.

Those damn scales! I do have the Fitbit aria so I can see my body fat percentage going down during the stall.

Hang in there! I just got out of my 3 week stall. The scale didn't budge for a week and a half and then suddenly I lost 3 lbs over the past three days.

Stalls are part of the whole process - I just got out of a 7 week stall!! That was brutal and very discouraging but just kept going with the program and I knew it would eventually start dropping again. Keep it up!! Don't get discouraged - look at the big picture and realize how much you have accomplished in such a short amount of time.

If you have already done so, do your measurements. I did them monthly on the anniversary date of my surgery and took full 360 degree photos.

When you hit a stall you can look at your measurements and know that things are moving.

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!
