Hello,

I had Dr. Bhojani in Guelph and was prescribed it and drank it. The pharmacy has to order it... you break the vile carefully and drink it. It doesn't taste bad.

Make sure you bring the little piece of paper they give you that gives instructions as to what they need to give you

I added mine to an Opti and agreed it had no taste. Helps with clotting.

What's the purpose of the Vitamin K supplement?

When I had a DVT I had to be very careful about not having vitamin K as it aids in clotting. Since we have to take blood thinners after surgery to make sure we don't get clots I'm puzzled by why we would supplement prior to surgery with vitamin K.

Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Can't speak to why they do it, Laura's above post make sense; however I also went through Guelph, and was not presribed it. I should say that I do have a condition that makes my blood thicker, so I'm sure that's why I was not presribed it. I had to be on blood thinners three weeks after surgery that was not fun! I would guess, and its only a guess, anyone whose had clots before, I think they would think twice giving Vit. K. My dad had clots in his lungs, so I know all about avoiding Vit K.

A friend of mine had her surgery a few weeks before me and was presribed that too, and always wondered why, but seems like its common. I'm sure there is a good reason for it.

I believe it's so we don't lose tons of blood during surgery...right after yes you will receive blood thinners 2x a day while in hospital.

I did get vitamin k after surgery as the blood thinners were too much for my body and I had a small internal bleed that stopped after the vitamin k and them stopping the blood thinners.
