First day back at work!

today is my first day back at work. but it is a full day not what i had wanted. i was aiming for a three hour day but they needed me for an additional five. i had a mini can of tuna for lunch. and i had the whole thing. but i have to keep myself going until 8pm when i finish. i feel a little full. but i ate super slow. 40 minutes for 3.8 tbsp of tuna.

i am still working on my shake from this morning. but i am taking a break from it for about an hour.

Does anyone else struggle with the shakes? i ordered the vanilla Premier to give me a break from the horrors of the chocolate i cant even get 2 a day down anymore.

but i have been getting my full 60 of protein every day regardless

I just want to say a quick thanks to everyone who had bore with me through the last 3.5 weeks. i know i have been inconsistent but i was not home and it was hard to check in. i am doing okay. still hard to lie on my side. still got some pain. but my most concern is the fact that under two of my incisions is hard. is that OK? i am unsure my sister (the doctor, no really a doctor) said they were fine but i am worried. anyway i see the nurse and dietitian on the 4th. so i will find out then.

anyone else have the follow up from surgery on the 4th in the afternoon? apparently it is a group thing.

Hi rce,

Congratulations on getting back to work. Don't over do it though. Remember not only are you still recovering, but you are surviving on far less calories than most people.

I hated the pre-made process shakes (ie. premier). So I started making my own with skim milk and whey powdered (slightly sweetened with stevia)..then I got sick of them - still too sweet. Then I got some new whey powder that was unflavoured. They were ok for a while then I got sick of them too.

This morning I watched Dr. Weiner's video on the set point smoothie (http://drmatthewweiner.com/set-point-smoothie/) I decided to give it a go as I am use to having green smoothies pre-surgery. The only problem was that there was no protein in it. So, I just happened to have some hemp seeds and I took them down from the shelf. It turns out that there are 10 grams of protein per 3 tbsp. I mixed them into the smoothie and it was really good and so good for me. It's not as much protein as the process drinks or the powders, but at least it's a natural food that has quite a bit of protein. I am finding that I have zero interest for anything sweet and anything processed. (Thank God!!)

Tomorrow is a rest day. for certain. i know i have my delivery of food coming in in the afternoon but the morning is rest. although it is worth observing my energy is way up. like i am the type of person who can sleep until 1 or 2 in the afternoon. but now. not so much 9:30 is a late day for me now. i set my alarms this morning and had to force myself to lay there and let them go off. no, really. i was lying there at 10 going "no, sleep" really its been quite remarkable.

I am wondering what protein powder i should go with? any suggestions?

i got the vegan one from costco but it was vile. it was vanilla flavoured but i am thinking i want something whey based. Hemp seeds, hmm are they tasty? I have never tried them. but 10 grams is 10 grams.

i will watch that video too.

The protein powder that I find the best is NewZealand Whey - 1 scoop=24grams of protein. I think I will revisit this and try it in my green smoothie tomorrow. I can't seem to get enough protein in otherwise, at this point. I love hemp seeds. They are tasty and makes the smoothie kind of creamy. You can get a bag of hemp seeds at Costco. I think there is a Kirkland brand.

Hi Barb! I'm still in liquid phase so I guess I'd need to wait until purée to try the hemp seeds in a smoothie? Do you blitz them in a mini food processor before adding them to your shake?

I too am having difficulty with the pre made shakes not agreeing with me. I can't stomach them and find I'm choking them down.

The only thing I've found tolerable was V8 with unflavoured protein powder but even that's getting old after a week and not so appealing.

I went out with my kids to a restaurant and decided to have some clamato juice...it was the best! I am so loving the savoury foods - can't stand the sweet.

For the hemp seeds, I just throw them in the blender with everything else. They are pretty soft anyway. I have a vitamix so things get really blended well.

I'm the same. Premier tastes awful to me. I'd way rather drink the V8! Clamato sounds good too!

Thanks for the info. I had hemp hearts on my radar for a good "superfood" and you've sold me. Going to do some more research and try to incorporate it into my plan! Thanks.

Cannot do the shakes at all!!! None of them! About 5 different flavours and 5 different brands! I dont eat any fish either. Hard time getting protein in for me but i try! Usually over 40g.
