St. Michael's Experiences

My brother had his surgical class this week, and is going to go to St. Michael's hospital for his surgery. So now its a waiting game until he hears from the Surgeon.

I don't know much about St. Michaels, as I went to Guelph. If anyone is willing to share their experience at St. Michaels...what they thought of their surgeons, nursing staff, etc I would appreciate it.

Also, as it wasn't an issue for me, how long do the surgeon's generally give you time off from work?

Thanks.

LOVED St. Mikes. I had Dr. Rotstein and he is fantastic. Nurses were good, rooms were way too hot and that was in JANUARY!! lol We had to ask them to figure something out because we were super hot (my roommate had RNY the same day). They are good for the food trays too with being bariatric friendly.

I didn't ask for very long off as I was planning on 1-2 weeks since I can work from home and also have a desk job. I went back after 2 weeks. Was a bit tired at first so I did modified days.

I would recommend St. Mikes in a heartbeat.

RNY Jan 16/17 Surgery @ St. Mikes with Dr. Rotstein. Pre-Surgery -20lbs & Optifast -15lbs. Year 1 Loss after RNY: 131lbs

What was the timeline like for you? How long after the surgical class did you hear about an appointment?

Glad to hear you had a great experience, aside from hot rooms lol

I stayed 5 days at St. Mike's this past April for another medical issue.

I have stayed at Mt. Sinai, Sunnybrook and Toronto East General. St. Mike's was hands down the best hospital stay I have had.

The building is old and a bit worn but the exceptional staff make up for it.

I had RNY surgery at St Mikes 2.5 years ago with Dr. Grantcharov at St Mikes. The staff, the rooms, the care was exceptional in every way. That area of the hospital was very quiet so walking around often even in the middle of the night was good. I had a private room which was very nice and expectant.

I stayed in the hospital for 3 days as i did not have a bowel movement and was very worried about it.

As for the time off i combined sick time and vacation so i took 8 weeks off which was really nice becuse it gave me time to heal, prep food accordingly .

Good luck

Lisa
