Telling my boss and other people

Ugh, I'm so sorry you've had such a negative experience with some of the people in your life. I can totally understand why you'd be reluctant to share with anyone else. It's really crazy how much some people will sabotage others just to make themselves feel better. I hope your sister sees the error of her ways and apologizes to you :( Your experience with the doctor makes me angry, it's hard enough going through the process without feeling like one of your team is actually working against you. Yay for you being so strong and in charge of your own life!

I have told only a handful of people at work and just a few family members/friends. I've had really mixed reactions from them. One close work friend got angry about it, so I don't even discuss it with her at all anymore, and some people just didn't understand what bariatric surgery was. Hubby has been the most supportive and one of my best friends has been as well because she had it done too.

I can't imagine ever getting angry at someone for taking a big step they felt was in their best interest, even if I didn't necessarily agree. People are so odd sometimes! I'm glad two of the people closest to you are supportive, that's so much more important.

I am so happy for you, and it sounds like you have an amazing boss! I think it's super important to have a good support system around you at all times.

I'm going through a similar situation, but it hasn't been a positive one like yours. My boss us okay with me having appointments, but my co-workers have been questioning me, and when I told one.....well, I'll leave it there.

I've heard different experiences from everyone, but I think most are positive. Good luck to you in your journey :D

I'm so sorry that you aren't having a better experience at work, hopefully the people in your personal life are more supportive! Good luck to you too!

I told my boss and had the same reaction. I did not tell my staff and even now almost 7 months post op, I only talk about it if they asked what I have done. I don't have a flashing light on my forward announcing it but I am honest if it comes up. Some catty comments but overall positive and supportive.

Just to add to this I did not tell my family, other than husband, until 1 week before as I could not handle everyone watching what I put into my mouth until then. Lol

I'm not telling anyone but my husband. I'm all about energy and not everyone will throw positive energy your way. I have a mom and aunt who hate surgery period and have been on me to loose weight. I won't be telling them or they will talk me out of it and they won't understand. I won't be telling my boss or my colleagues because it's none of their business. My relationships will change. People may whisper. People may talk. People may snarl. But people don't know what it's like to be me. Looking forward to running around with my kids and never shopping at a plus size - ever. This is a life long commitment and I'm ready. I want to be 60 and still eating right and moving around freely. Here's to our health and getting our mobility, confidence, and spirit back friends. I keep my secret locked away, except for hubby.
