Question: clear liquids.... broth, jello, and ... cuz tea and coffee without milk will kill your stomach lining.... any thoughts?

Decaf tea and coffee are okay I think.

Do you mean just after surgery or post op in general?

I was only supposed to be on clear liquids while in the hospital, then full liquids for two weeks, but my tummy couldn't manage many of the items on full liquids so I had a lot of clear liquids in the first week.

I stuck to different flavors of clear broth, water, and peppermint herbal tea at first. They did serve me black tea and coffee in the hospital but I couldn't manage it at all.

Yes, decaf coffee/tea is fine as long as there isn't milk/cream in it because those aren't clear liquids.

You are allowed decaf.

Some surgeons allow coffee, whether just decaf or hi-test as well, but not all do. Caffeine in normal amounts is not the problem. It is the acid in both regular and decaf coffee which can cause people real problems, especially during the first several post-op months. Tea, even black tea, is less acidic. My surgeon wanted me off of all coffee including decaf, starting when i began my 2-week pre-op diet. I am not quite 3 months post RnY, and still haven't received clearance to have coffee.

Post op .. actually

and again ... in my reading... funny I have been reading excerpts from surgeons from the UK, Mexico, US and Canada ... and they say it is actually ok to only have clear liquids for the first week because your tummy is healing. It is so funny to see all the different pieces of advice. I will obviously follow TWH ( they have been pretty accurate in their program info).

Does anyone drink watered down apple, cranberry or white grape juice? TWH says it's ok.

TWH allows it. You'll get juice on your tray in the hospital. I didn't have it because I've never been a juice fan. In fact, I've really just always preferred plain water. Still do.

It really is a matter of preference and choice. :)
