First Day of Opti

Well today is day 1 of 21. After reading a lot of posts about opti, I started out feeling pretty optimistic. I have to say I wasn't prepared for the taste or the aftertaste. I will definitely be trying some of the suggestions I have read in posts on here. I will make it the 21 days because I know at the end of it is my new beginning. So I am going to keep smiling (and gagging) my way through it. Just want to say thank you to everyone on this forum for being so supportive of each other. You help make this journey exciting and help me feel a lot less anxiety :)

You've got the right attitude about it and that is half the battle! You just have to make it through these few weeks and you can do it! One shake at a time. Make sure its cold with ice cubes - helped me alot!

Best of luck

One good thing pre op is....you can chug it back and be done!

I am two weeks post op and i have to sip Premiere 30ml at a time. Honestly it takes all day...lol

All the best, we have been there!

You go girl- decaf cold brew it.. I cut my caffeine down to one coffee a day from like six.

Now what I do is I get presidents choice decaf beans and I grind them myself and then I put them in filtered water in the fridge...it makes a really great decaf cold brew and you can add that to your shakes and you should be fine...also I don't know if this is legal but raw organic cocoa is also only a couple of carbs but I think but I'll have to ask the NUT. Only 10 cal. Vitamin zero water is 0 carbs and sweetened with Stevia! I make popsicles and I have those now! It cuts the monotony and .. my fave broth! Good luck- hon!

Ok, forgive my ignorance but walk me through this Jo. I love coffee flavour but am not much of a coffee drinker and don't brew my own etc...you grind the beans then just pour water over them? Or you brew a pot and it in the fridge. I'm thinking making the shakes with the coffee would make them more palatable when the time comes.

Ok you are all probably wondering why I'm experimenting it's because I'm trying to lose as much weight as I can before I get my surgery so to answer you Karen.

what I do is I grind my own beans because they are fresher and the taste is better and not bitter.

yes I put them in a jar about half a cup and then I put a half a cup of water and I let it sit for over 24 hours.

When I am doing it for a shake I put about a cup in there and about 2 cups of cold water depending how strong you want it.

you not being a coffee drinker I would probably get coffee that is either medium or blonde and I would do a half a cup of ground to 2 cups of water to begin.

I love strong coffee so for me it actually looks like mud.

OK now another thing to remember it has to be coarse because you're going to put it through a filter after to get out all the grounds.

it sounds tedious but it really isn't because you could make a large batches and it can stay 24 to 48 hours no problem in the fridge and you just filter it like you would hot coffee in one of those little filter cup things.

KarenKim,

I used regular decaf coffee grinds and brewed coffee as normal. I let it cool down, then I refrigerated it. I brewed a pot every couple of days and added coffee to all of my Opti. I loved it!

You can always reach out to your dietician and see if you can switch to another brand. I switched to the go lean shakes from GNC (though in retrospect I prefer premier).

I couldn't choke down the optifast.
