I will just say that my journey began at 37 ... backed out twice... and now I am ready.. was not ready then... it was more to do with where I was as a person ... not really about dieting because I actually lost and kept off quite a chunk.

So I am not young.. lol and not old.. heehee

Hi Lina,

Good for you for going through this at a young age; it will change your life!

I gained my weight when I was your age, and then struggled with it for years, gaining, losing, regaining, plus more each time. It wasn't until I was 50 that I started the process for weight loss surgery. I had the surgery on Feb. 1st of this year, when I was 52, and turned 53 this summer. It's the best thing I ever did for myself.

There are lots of young people who've had weight loss surgery on Youtube. There's even a young married couple who are in college who both had surgery, about a month apart from each other.

Pre-Op Visit: Jan. 10, 2017, weight 304, surgeon: Dr. David Lindsay, St. Joe's, Toronto

1st Day of (3 weeks worth of) Optifast: Jan. 11, 2017

Surgery Date: Feb. 1st, 2017

I was 31 when I had surgery :) good for you for doing this now! Lots of people say they wish they did it years earlier.

At 25 I had just lost 80lbs and was loving life, started my career, maintained the weight loss for a few years...then a few years later I got pregnant, lots of stress, gained A LOT of weight and had such a hard time losing, had a lap band, then had a revision 2 years later.

5'0 - SW - 240LBS | Lap Band - August 2015| Revision Band to RNY Surgery - May 16, 2017| Opti-fast - 9lbs | G.W - 150LBS | CW - 165LBS |

I was 35 when I had my surgery. I wished I did it10 years ago, I would have saved a lot of money not paying for BS diets. Live & learn lol. I think you are doing the right thing, I know I wasn't living life @ 280lbs, I was just coasting, but I'm living now!!

Wishing you the vey best on your weight loss journey, Sonja

I'm 38 and having my surgery this month. A friend did the surgery when we were in our late 20's, she went on to have 2 healthy pregnancies and has maintained weight loss for over 10 years. I thought about it on and off since then then but didn't because I wanted to try losing on my own. I'm now 50lbs heavier with joint and back pain. You are doing the right thing.

I started the journey just before my 60th birthday. I was always what you would call "roundish" but never overweight until my 40s when I lost my Mum. I started to gain more and couldn't keep it off. I did two very expensive attempts with the famous Toronto diet Dr. B. It worked temporarily but there is no support in that program. I'm retired now and want to spend my retirement more active. i wish I'd considered this in my 40s but it's not too late for me so I'm going for it!

Referred January 7/17, Orientation Humber May 28/17, Meet Dr. August 4/17, TRIO November 3/17, Internist November 21/17, Surgeon again December 21/17, Pre-op assessment January 4/18 and Surgery January 12/18.
