So, has anyone heard about Low Carb Canada?

I was JUST told about this place (they ship or you can go to one of there stores and pick up) but i was looking and they have things like sugar free bbq sauce, for example. i was looking because i like my meat a bit saucy and most bbq sauce is super high in sugar. (DUMPING SYNDROM FEARS REDOUBLE) but they have other things like fat free puffed cheese snacks 5g of protein and 75 cal a serving. are these good options, i know i wont want the noodles as it is just filler but there seems to be a fair amount of high protein foods on the site. https://www.lowcarbcanada.ca/

i don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing i have found i dont intend to eat chips and things after sugery the point is to stop these bad behaviours, not replace them with slightly healtier alternatives. however i can see just eating meat and hummus as being tireing after a while it would be nice to know there are other options for getting the protein in.

or am i barking up the wrong tree?

can some one who has had the surgery look here and tell me if i should invest the time to look into it further?

And please no, "you are just trying to have your bad habits back." it is a huge inventory and i think some of the items seem valid choices (like the bbq sauce)

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday!

Personally, I think you have to be very careful with items from low carb sites.

First, better to choose real food for your tiny pouch. Once you consume your measured protein and few bites of veg you will be full.

once you advance a few months out, you may look for different foods that mimic the foods you used to love and that got you into trouble in the first place. If you can, DON'T fall into this trap. Take this wonderful opportunity to change your taste buds so you crave lean proteins, vegetables and low glycemic fruits.

Over my almost 9 years on this site, I have seen more people have major regain who chose to find substitutes for the simple carbs that contributed to our becoming obese. This is anecdotal, but I have seen it time and again. Early out they look for "protein chips, low carb pasta, crackers etc etc. I have observed them return a few years out complaining about regain.

A better plan imo, get to goal. Then, and only then, have the real deal on occasion. I have pasta about 5 times per year. I make sure it's great pasta and I enjoy about 1 cups worth. Chips, maybe 6 times a year I buy a bag of the real deal.

If you start introducing fake foods, soon they won't be good enough. You'll want the real deal. If you want a pasta type texture at this point, try a spiralizer with zucchini.

Long post, please be careful. Our brains don't work the same as those who have never been obese. Take this as a major reset and dont screw around.

Good luck

Thank you for a well thought out and considered post. As I say I don't think I will be going for pasta or chips. I know those days are over. But this site has things like spices and sauces that is more my interest. Protein bars and the like. But I can see the wisdom of what you are saying

thanks

If you are looking for protein bar options the best ones I've found in canada are the simply protein ones and you can get them at loblaws. I order celebrate ones from the states online and they are pretty good. I've tried virtually every other brand and thrown them out. Those are the only kinds I like.

again. I use protein bars in a pinch...like on the road or if I end up somewhere with no great food options. They'll be my go to in a pinch.

Another vote for the simply protein bars. They have stats I can live with, and I don't find they trigger cravings for more, or the real thing.

Like, they are good, but not that good. Hahah

and they don't have that heavy chewy (not in a good way) texture that all the other bars have. I like the crunch.

I've been to the store, bought my ketchup there and my sugar free sweet pickles. It is worth checking out. I generally avoid processed food so other than the odd staple once a year or so I wouldn't revisit. I originally went looking for snack alternatives. Tried the quest chips and literally spit them into the garbage and had to wash my mouth out. I like the Kay's naturals stuff much better. But honestly only use them in a pinch. I prefer to snack on my home made chia puddings or other fresh foods.

I have tried a few things there but was not impressed. I seldom use protein powders or bars now so not something I shop for . I tried the bread because someone told me it was great. I think cardboard would taste better so gave away what I bought. If you look at the stats for regular sauces they have sugar but if you are only using a table spoon it is not that bad. Hot sauce is pretty sugar free.

Before surgery years ago, I tried a few items - like Salad Dressing and Syrups. I ordered a huge box and I was so excited to try it all out. Unfortunately my stomach didn't react well to the ingredients. Cramps and ran to the washroom alot! I did like the taste of the items despite my reaction and maybe I'm am just intolerant of those type of ingredients. It might not affect someone else the same. I would suggest if you are ordering to just try one or two items to begin - I had a huge box of stuff I couldn't use after and it was a waste of money after all.
