Three Month Update - RNY

I'm a very happy loser. No doubts, no regrets, all good. That is not to say that I haven't had challenges and a steep learning curve, but I know positively that this was the right decision for me.

Since my surgery on March 22nd, I have lost 42 lbs; 52 since my two weeks of Opti. I have lost 5.5" from my waist and 7" from my hips. I have gone from plus sizes of 2x and 20 to a large in tops and dresses and between a 14 and 16 in pants and shorts. I am off my blood pressure medication, am no longer pre-diabetic, have lots more energy, I'm more relaxed and less stressed. My blood work shows that I have higher than normal levels of Vitamin D, B12, iron and calcium so my vitamins may be adjusted at my OTN visit on June 29th. Life is great!

Foodwise, I have not had any dumping and have not been sick to my stomach - even when I was nauseous due to the recent kidney infection. I went through all of the stages: Opti, clear fluids, fuller fluids, pureed and now "regular" food easily knowing that my pouch needed to fully heal. I journal my food into "My Fitness Pal", and then onto the site to share, be accountable and sometimes ask questions or request feedback from members who are further out than me. If I eat or drink too quickly, or have one or two bitefuls too many, I do feel uncomfortable. Some foods, like a homemade stuffed pepper, did not sit well. 20 to 30 minutes later, I feel much better and I continue to practice mindful eating and drinking. I am learning how to use my new tool.

I am learning that exercise is key and try to walk 5 km. three to four times a week. I have a busy schedule (like we all do), and am trying to commit to an hour a day just for me. Aren't we all worth just an hour a day? I think so - now to put that commitment into a regular routine. I'm a work in progress.

It was recommended by Ginnny that I look at the post-op planner under resources in the site. At 100%, I'm 12 lbs. off the mark. At 95%, 11 and at 90%, 7 lbs. I have printed it off and have put my actual weight each month. It is a guideline, as are everyone else's numbers. There is no reason for me to feel bad at losing the 42 lbs. since surgery and I remind myself this is not a race. The kidney infection knocked me for a loop, but I maintained my eating program - even in the hospital with some help from the dietician. I am a success.

The knowledge, advice and support I get from members on this site is incredible and greatly appreciated. Our healthcare professionals is where we should go for medical advice, but those who are further out often have the answers we seek or they are to be found on older threads that are still accessible. I have great support from my family and lots of encouragement.

Three months in to a healthier rest of my life. Life is good, and so are the encouraging members on this site. Many thanks for all of your help!

Hi Linda,

You are doing so well!! To get off your blood pressure medication, and your no longer pre-diabetic, I mean that's worth it on its own...but of course its the weight loss that contributes to us getting healthier.

You've dealt with a couple bumps on this road, and you've handle it very well I must say. You should be very proud of yourself!
