Glad to hear that it wasn't something seriously wrong with your blood work! It won't take long to raise your counts up! I had low vitamin D as well, I went to the tanning salon a couple of times along with taking a vitamin D tabs as well and in no time it was back up! Plus looked better with my tan lol! Best of luck!

Good that they caught that.

i had really low vitamin D and my family doctor caught it with the first round of blood work he put me on one pill a day. when i talked to the nurse a few days later she said, no, i want you to take three pills a day. i was scheduled for surgery on March 27th so i can only assume the vitamin d was up to acceptable levels. but that was caught early on, so i didn't have to put of my surgery (not for that at least)

...good thing. It seems like many people have low D. I wonder what that's all about?

My Family doctor said it could be the weather too, we are Canadian after all and we have a long dark winter. i read up on it a bit the Nordic countries have a low vitamin d level on average too. the northern curse i suppose.

and i am bad for going outside, even in summer. i walk with a cane and find it hard to go out and just walk around. often if i have to go somewhere i take a cab or arrange some form of transportation. that could be hurting my vitamin D levels.

my condo is on a low floor and faces and ally in between tall buildings so not a lot of natural light there either

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday!

Hi Barbara,

I am so pleased to hear the appointment with the dietitian went well! Yay, you're back on track.

I have low vitamin D as well, and my doc put me on one pill (1,000 iu) daily, but the hospital upped it to 3,000 iu daily to get my levels up. I am also getting out in the sun now that the weather has improved to help improve my levels. Not too much - I burn easily, and have to be careful of the dangerous effects, but I am trying to soak up some extra natural D.

Yes, a lot of us have low D. There is a connection between obesity and low vitamin D because vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, so recent research suggests much of the vitamin D produced in the skin or ingested is distributed in fat tissue. So obese people may take in as much vitamin D from the sun, food, or supplements as people who are not obese, but our levels tend to be lower.

Wishing you continued success on your journey!

I'm glad things went much better this time around. Each visit provides us with the opportunity to learn, to be a bit introspective, and to participate.

I'm the opposite of most. When I say the NP she asked if I was taking Vitamin D. I said "No". She asked again in kind of a snippy way, "You aren't taking Vitamin D?" Again, I said "No". Third time: "So you aren't taking Vitamin D and your levels are this good?". I answered, "I'm not taking Vitamin D and yes, I guess my levels are that good. Is there a problem?"

She went on to the next question - lol. My Vitamin D levels are still high ... as is my iron, B12, Calcium - I guess I'm a freak.

Gotta laugh!
