Colonoscopy and Endoscopy

On Monday I have my appointment at St. Joe's for a colonoscopy and endoscopy as part of my procedures before bariatric surgery. I knew these appointments were coming up, but only late yesterday afternoon, I read the information that was given to me by the centre in order to prepare. I remember last time I had this done (five years ago) that I had to take a solution and some laxative meds. I was quite surprised when reading the information, that as of today I am not allowed to eat. I am only allowed clear fluids (decaf coffee, tea, broth and jello). I just about cried! I was so not prepared for this! I guess I should have read the info earlier, but honestly I don't remember having to 'fast' the last time. So, today and tomorrow I am on strictly clear fluids. And... I can't have any liquid at all on Monday and my procedure is not until 3:00 in the afternoon. So far today I have been ok, but I'm starting to get a bit hungry now. Well, I've already lost a few pounds by changing my diet in the last few weeks, so I hopefully I will lose a few more by the time this is all said and done! Wish me luck!

Thanks,

Barb

I've had both scopes for the past years and prep has been the same. For colonoscopy you need to be clear

which is why clear fluids and bowel prep. If you are not clear they won't get results and will have to repeat

Hi Leslie,

Yes, I'm beginning to realize this. I've been following the directions and I'm finding it's not as bad as I originally thought. I more day to go! Thanks for your input.

I have a bowel condition that means I need annual colonoscopies. I have to say, the prep is by far the worst part of the whole thing. That Pilko Silax stuff is like hell juice. Just the thought of it makes me want to die lol.

I'm thinking of you and I hope it all goes smoothly and you keep your spirits up.

Hi anncha,

Thanks so much for your kindness! But yeh, that stuff is brutal! Anyways, almost there. I'm thirsty though. Just a few more hours!
