LOVE MY FAMILY DOCTOR

I went to see my GP today to get a referral for WLS. No hesitation at all. With a big smile she said "of course" and gave me a big hug and said Let's do this!

She is happy for me, will be supportive, and thinks it is a very good option for me.

So now it begins. I can't wait to really get started.

Congratulations! Having a great family doctor is the best. Mine was the same when I asked him about WLS (minus the hug. Haha). Now, when I go in to update him or get blood work, he has the biggest smile and tells me "a year from now, you are not even going to recognize yourself and the activities you'll be doing will amaze even you."

He's so genuinely happy for me! I'm his fourth patient to go through this.

I'm her 4th patient as well! My Doctor is awesome. I was her first patient when she came out of Med School and we certainly have a special relationship. I am truly lucky to have her.

wow!! she sounds great.

My family dr, also a female, said "well....I'll send it in but i don't like it. Can you imagine if everyone wanted this surgery? it would be an epidemic!"

I should add that this is the same person who when I asked if she would take on my husband as a patient her answer was "he doesn't have depression or anything like that does he? I can't handle that stuff. I don't understand why people act that way." We are only with her because it is near impossible to get a family dr here. We went to walkins for our first 5 years of living in the area as no dr's were accepting patients.

Omg. I'm so sorry to hear that. What part of ON are you in?

And good for you for self advocating and doing what's best for you despite her naysaying ways.

Durham Region. It's been an issue here for decades. I saw an ad in the local paper once of a new dr who was accepting so I went to see him. He asked me 8 billion questions and looked up EVERYTHING in his manual (which was slightly unnerving but i thought 'at least he's thorough') Had a physical with him. Called back about 6months later for an appointment for some random issue and was told that he was no longer practicing. Fun! (not)

Yikes! Durham is big and growing. That's surprising and unfortunate.

My amazing doc of 20 yrs retired about 4 yrs ago. I had a hard time finding a new one. Settled on one, but was never happy. Always went to walk in clinics instead cause it was such an ordeal to see her. That's how I met my current doc! He has a fairly new practice and was taking new patients. I signed off from my old one and onto him!

Hopefully your new amazing doc will appear for you as well :)

If you're in Oshawa, call the Glazier Clinic. We were able to switch there and I'm so much happier with our new dr.
