I had six weeks off from a straight desk job but I'm sure I could have returned after one. I had a very smooth recovery.

I am jealous of you "bounce right back" people! All the surgeries I have had over the years I have never bounced back, sucks to me me LOL LOL

Daisy, when I had my gallbladder out (20 years or so ago), I went for a follow up with the surgeon after 2 weeks, I hopped up on the table with no problems at all, and then asked him for more time off (I was in a crappy job at the time)! He sort of looked at me like he knew I didn't need it but did give me extra time. I too have great benefits.

Well I know that now when they take out the GB is lap and not open so that's good but doesn't a RN friend of mine yesterday tell me the pain from the gas they pump in your stomach is "extremely painful and you get all he referred pain in your shoulders," well damn, that's exactly what happened post RNY, I remember coming home from the hospital and holding my shoulders (like giving myself a hug) and pacing my hallway crying and whining to my husband "why does it hurt so much!!!" Great when I get the GB out I will be a mess again!

I think this official puts me in the "wimp" category! HA HA HA

Love that you took the extra "mental" healing time off from the old crappy job!!

Honestly I don't really remember being laid up for long! I do remember being starving on my way home and stopping at Timmie's for a bagel!!

But maybe I'm just a fast healer. My was a laproscopic procedure as well. A few additional worm scars on my belly!

Oh, and I did my run at lunch.....I didn't love it....4.2 kms in 30.58 minutes....next Thursday I have to do 5 kms....oi I'm not sure I can!!

My surgery is May 16 and I am having Band to RNY revision.

I have 4 weeks scheduled off - I did this because I want to understand my new lifestyle and take the time to adjust.

Regardless of how smooth my recovery might be (which I am hoping for the best), mentally I think its important to take the time to adjust.

I took 2 weeks off from a desk job. Then modified work for 2 weeks - 5-6 hours a day but that's because I hated my job then quit and worked elsewhere. :) I didn't need the 2 weeks of modified work hours.

I had 8 incisions so I needed the start of the second week but probably could have gone back by the Wednesday.
