One week after RNY Surgery

Hello,

First of all, I want to thank everyone for posting their experiences on this website as it has been a tremendous resource throughout my preparation for surgery.

Luckily, I have been feeling really good since my surgery 9 days ago (maybe too good). I am still on a liquid diet for another week but I am concerned that I may be consuming too many calories (over the last 5 weeks, I've lost 40 pounds whi*****ludes optifast for 4 weeks prior to surgery). My liquid diet consists of 2 protein shakes, unsweetened apple sauce, yogurts, soups with protein powder, cottage cheese, no added sugar pudding and halo top ice cream (low sugar and high protein).

The last few days my daily nutrition consists of the following:

1,100-1,200 calories

150g of protein

100g of carbs

46g of sugar

17g of fat

8 cups of water

As mentioned, I feel good and haven't been sick at all but I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience as I feel I can eat more but I am limiting myself to the above daily intake.

Thanks!

I know when the nurse called me at 5 days post op I told her I was having 2 premier protein shakes and about a litre of water all day. She told me it was too much! Which I was surprised at. I wasn't hungry nor was I full.

Congrats on the surgery. I had my 3 month follow up with Nutritionist yesterday (even though im 4 months out tomorrow) and she said that i am eating enough for pureed stage and soft foods (getting between 650-700) calories a day and should be eating more. she said that at about 8 months post op you should be getting between 1000-1600 calories a day based on their meal plans... i would contact your centre's nutritionist and ask if that is enough... i know when i was on liquids i was getting about 400 calories a day and that was including 2 premier shakes... on pureed i was at about 500 and have gotten to a max of 798 on normal foods... i am no expert nor a nutritionist, however i think you need to get some advice from a certified professional. i get 75-80 g of protein, under 50 g of carbs a day and drink 3-4 litres of water a day.... i was told by the nurse that too much protein can affect the liver... remember that we only absorb so much at a time... best advice i can give is to make sure you are measuring... you shouldnt be eating more than 1/4 cup at a time right now....

Where do you buy your Halo Top icecream? I am in maintenance and it may be something that might be nice as a treat in the summer.
