Old habits

Today was my first full day back at work in the office. I am 3 weeks out. So, between calls and coworkers and emails I did not drink my water and missed my snacks. Then I get home and my older son has 4 friends over. I start making nachos and tacos for them. Cook, serve, clean. Here I sit at 7:40 pm. No water and no dinner. Now I get to sit down and have my dinner and try to get in my water. Why or why do I always forget about myself. I consider today a failure.

I wouldn't look at it as failure, but a learning experience.

Remeber to be kind to yourself, and try to look back at today and see where you could improve.

Tomorrow is a new day

You are #1....never forget that. Especially now with all you've been through to make your life all it can be.......dont you dare take a back seat to anyone or anything!!!!

Today will only remain a failure if you fail to learn from your mistakes. Tomorrow is the day you do better, make YOU top priority.....and never feel a damn bit guilty about it!!!

You'll be amazed how others will react to the new attitude!

Oh no; it's so hard to get into new habits at home; I can't imagine having to do it at work. Can you keep your water at your desk and set a timer to remind you to sip and eat? That might help.

Tell your kids you have to put yourself first or you'll get sick and run down...and maybe teach your son how to make his own nachos, :-).

Good luck.

Hugs,

Kathy

I think we all do it Leeann.

I miss my snack times mostly, then miss my vitamin pill..and today I missed one anti-biotic.

I almost need an electronic buzzer on me to remind when I need to take something. With time I suppose it will eventually become more routine.

Take a Premier Protein and that makes up foe the missed proteins and strive to do better tomorrow.

I set reminders in my phone all the time for stuff like that. Definitely vitamins.

I think I might add one for an afternoon snack. Never in my life did I think I'd need to be reminded to eat haha.

Agree with the others. The successful people I know put themselves first.

one tip I have is have ready to eat stuff in the fridge for those times when you need to eat quickly. Eg I did groceries on the way home yesterday and I got home later than usual. Was hungry so wanted to eat right away. I had some of my protein pudding. Not my ideal dinner choice. But good macros and worked well as a quick dinner.

Sorry to hijack a thread but I love your signature Travelher. I cleared out 5 pair of pants today because I dropped another size for the 3rd time already.

I went to Value Village today and picked up a few pairs of pants for the next downsize.

Leeann skipping meals is not great but skipping water can lead to some serious problems. 6 months post-op I fell down a flight of stairs. I passed out from dehydration. It is so easy for us to become dehydrated. After spending almost 3 weeks in the hospital, I learned my lesson. Keep a drink near you at all times, when you are cooking, driving, watching TV, working. Low hydration can lead to low blood pressure (which is what happened to me) nausea, constipation, kidney problems etc. I just want you safe and healthy, and to avoid what I went through.

Ugh. This stuff takes practice! I think the fact you realized you were neglectful, is a win. Now you see where some areas for improvement are. Preop, I went months and years of neglecting myself without even realizing it...

A few things that might help:

as others said, have ready-made handy food options for yourself when you get home from work, since that's a busy time.

i don't know what your work situation is, but if you can, keep water within arms reach at all times.

One thing I did, was se****er goals. For example, if I haven't had a full sports bottle (mine is 750ml)by lunch time, I make a point of drinking it before I eat. (Keep in mind, I'm six months out, and can do that in a few minutes) just set your own goal, and break it down over the day.

I also put reminders in my phone for vitamins. Having one for water would be good too, if that makes sense at your job.

good luck, take the time to come up with a plan that fits your lifestyle. You got this!
