Re; Red Meat
Hi Manda32,
I went to St Michaels in Toronto, I didn't have the best experience in regards to my time in the hospital after surgery, my recovery was rough in the beginning, I struggled to drink or swallow even the smallest amounts of fluid as there was severe resistance in my stomach and this caused more pain then anything else. The pain levels aside from that weren't too bad, I was up and walking the halls, I ended up being there for an additional 3 days. My uvula was damaged during intubation and although it didn't cause me any pain it was very distressing and caused a lot of anxiety, it hung down the back of my throat and I gagged a lot, it wasn't until day 3 when somebody would finally listen to be and have a look, they kept telling me it was just irritation from the intubation. I did a lot of research on my surgeon and felt confident with him prior to surgery, however I was very disappointed with him, I was told I'd meet him prior to surgery, that never happened, I requested to meet him after my surgery and it wasn't until the following day that I met him and when I did, you could tell he had better places to be, he had terrible bedside manner.
Aside from that, once I was discharged and made it home, it was a long process to get the fluids in, which I guess is normal, the pain levels decreased as I pushed the fluids, my incisions healed quickly without any complications.
I have stuck to a very strict diet plan without any difficulty, and as of yesterday, I was down 79 lbs ft his includes optifast weight loss) I've noticed the weight loss has slowed down but my doctor also said it could be due to building muscle mass and to not focus on the scale, which I weight daily, but I don't get upset or obsessed if the scale doesn't move.
Hopefully you find this helpful and please feel to message me anytime :-)
Thanks for all the replies. There is definitely inconsistency to say at best. I will talk to my dietitian about it when I get further down the road. I can live without most red meat, but if you can have ground turkey/chicken...why not ground beef? Be the only red meat I'd be interested in having before waiting out the six month rule.
Again thanks for the responses, very interesting.

Good morning!
I am also from Ottawa. There is the obvious gradual diet progression from clear fluids to soft.
I have to admit the RNY has made me a bit of a modified vegetarian. I eat poached eggs, tuna & avocado & veal meatballs made with only Parmesan cheese, egg & salt & pepper. Meatballs are very moist and completely puréed with sauce before I can eat them. I can not eat chicken, pork or any other form of meat. I have difficulty with cold cuts ie. turkey, ham. I can't even imagine steak...
I would definitely do what your Weight Management Center recommends...
Good luck
Sandra
