Hi everyone,

Just wondering did anyone on the forum decide on the once a month vitamin b injection? i used to get vitamin b injections in the past and i find the injections are really helpful so i want to do those instead of the pills or sublingual. just wondering do i need a prescription for that? which dr. gives you that? surgeon? nurse? family? any advice would be helpful.thanks!

I opted for the sublingual tablets. I got a bottle that has 210 tablets of 1000mg for about $10 and which would be good for 420 days.

Do you have to go to the Dr.'s office for the injections or can you do that yourself?

At the moment I have to have B12 injections every 3 weeks. I don't think this will change after surgery. I have difficulty absorbing B12 and the doctor's cannot explain why. Even taking B12 pills does not work for me. So, your post has me thinking! I will need to remember to talk to my surgeon/support people before surgery to see if I will have difficulty taking and absorbing all B vitamins. I'm wondering if they could give a multi B vitamin by injection as a way for me to take my B vitamins post surgery. I remember when I went on the Bernstein diet (that one was crazy!!) and they did give injections of B vitamins with every visit. Someone had once said to me, "That was because it was the only thing keeping you alive!". With this being said, with B vitamins, that support your nervous system, I wonder if loosing weight so quickly has a role to play in it. Any thoughts?

I get mine from my family doctor.  I did before surgery and will continue.

THe injections are self administered similar to insulin shots and this is a option for vitamin b,,,the dietician didn't even think I needed the prescription but I think I do...anyone else know for a fact?

I don't think you need a prescription, but if you have one, then it's covered under your benefit plan (if you've got one).   I imagine you would have to pay for the needles, alcohol swabs etc. too.
