Does anyone on here have Sunlife insurance through their employer.  I am asking as that is my provider and I am wondering if they have ever declined anyone for short term disability for weight loss surgery.

I have Great West Life - and they said as long as it is paid by a provincial health plan (IE: OHIP in Ontario) then it will be covered.

My surgeon put me off for 8 weeks - which is a long time - but my insurance approved me for 7 weeks (which is the date I told them I was planing on returning to work)  I chose that date - to allow me time to learn to eat properly - and to have my first follow up with TWH

Sun Life (or any insurance provider ) administers whatever plan your employer has selected for you.  I would call Sun Life or your HR department to find out what your STD policy consists of.  Someone else with the same provider even from the same employer could have a totally different plan than you do.  Call them to make sure you know what you qualify for.

I'm with Sunlife and off on short term for surgery right now. The adjuster called me after I submitted my claim, asked if the surgery was covered under OHIP. I told her yes and she approved me for 6 weeks. 3 to go. :). No issues at all. The surgeon said she would sign for 4 weeks but my family dr agreed to 6.

RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.

77 lbs lost and counting!

Losing the regain! I got this!
