I joined a gym!

Happy Monday all.

I joined a gym.  Now I have to go and visit it!  I have no idea what to do when I get there!  I have chronic back and leg pain so I am not sure how long I can do anything.  Walking to my car usually sets my back off and going up and down stairs kills my knees.  But I am determined.  I want this surgery to work and I am not losing weight at all right now.  I know if I lose pre op I will be much more successful post op.

I have taken the advise of others and am writing everything down cutting back on carbs only having lean proteins.  I don't have caffine or carbination, I drink PLENTY of water (but retain it as well).

So I figure....get moving won't hurt, well perhaps it will at first but that too will pass.

Any suggestions on a work out plan?

Hi Lisa,

Good for you!!  Normally a gym will have 1 or 2 sessions with a personal trainer included with their membership.  I'd ask about that.   It's been a very long time since I've had a membership, but I remember the gym doing an orientation and setting up a plan for me.

Good Luck! :)

Thank you.  This is a no frills gym, it is only 10.00 every two weeks for the membership so I am sure it won't come with a  personal trainer.  But there is staff, I suppose I could ask them.

Thank you for yoru reply.

Hi Lisa, I would suggest using the recumbent bike so that they isn't any strain on your joints or back.  Drinking plenty of water is good, but make sure that you are not taking in lots of salt.  Many packaged foods are high in sodium.  Good for you for joining the gym.

Hello Lisa!

Welcome! I too had a history.of  chronic low back pain & siatica.

Lots of pain going up and down stairs. Carrying around all that weight wasn't easy.

Before my RNY surgery (January 4th, 2016) I did auquafit.

I was able to bounce around comfortably & adjust the exercises that I had pain or discomfort with.  I also did a whole lot of walking regularly.

I just joined Movati a huge fitness club in our city but placed it on hold until I am cleared post RNY.

My plan in Aqua fitness & yoga to start.  My goal is to get light enough to hang from that fabric attached to the ceiling.

I am finding walking difficult now. Not quite ready to venture towards the spinning, elliptical or any other machine that requires too much cardio too soon.

Looking forward to walking & cycling in the spring.

Day 6 post RNY and I am still shocked how well I am doing.

Listen to this perfect group of strangers...

They have been there and done that!

Take care

Sandra

Thank you and CONGRATS ON DOING SO WELL.

I am going to go Wednesday to the gym and see what is what. I know they don't have a pool and well to be honest i won't put on a bathing suit anyway.  I love the water and when smaller loved aquafit, but not right now.  My time will come again.

Thank you for responding.

wow! Good for you Lisa!!! I've always felt lost in gyms, but I usually started on the treadmills. I know that weight/resistance training can be fantastic in changing your body. Maybe the staff at your gym can guide you a bit with that stuff.

Good Luck!!!
