Hi, everyone!  I had my surgery in October 2015, and I'm wondering how much food I should be able to eat at once (in, say, a half hour) at this point.  I was startled yesterday to find I could eat an entire sandwich (a 4" panini sort of thing) over the space of about 25 minutes, though I did feel somewhat uncomfortable after.  I won't be doing this again, because I don't want to stretch my stomach out, but I'm wondering what's normal at this point.  Should I still be sticking to 1/2 cup protein, 1/4 grain, 1/4 veggies at this point?

Thanks!

I would still stick to a cup in total for 2 reasons.

  1. You are less likely to feel discomfort if you don't go past this amount
  2.  You are less likely to regain if you watch your portions and eat your protein first.

So you CAN regain after surgery?  This is one of oh so  many questions I have about the surgery.  I'm hoping by joining this site, that people can help me to make an informed and educated decision.

Sadly yes. This isn't the easy way no matter what nay sayers say to the contrary. But the success rate after WLS is far greater than the 5% that lose weight and keep it off without surgery.

I wonder what makes this so much more successful.....

Actually truly getting down to goal weight?....That might do it for me. I've gotten under 200 before (Dr Bernstein, Weigh****chers) but I've never gotten anywhere near a weight that's healthy for my height(I'm only five foot tall)....maybe if I did, I'd be so happy and thrilled (and able to wear clothes I WANT, and able to do things I want)...that it would help me not to overeat again....

I dunno. So much of why I eat is emotionally related.... :(

As part of the process to have surgery you will see a psychiatrist and a social worker.  You may want to look into seeing a therapist. Or joining overeaters anonymous.
