Mmet the surgeon, now what - ottawa
I met with one of the surgeons at The Civic on July 27 and she told me that someone from the office would be calling within the next couple weeks to schedule the surgery. I received a call the next week from Lana in their office and scheduled the surgery date. I was told I would be contacted by the pre surgical team at the hospital to come in.
At the pre surgical consultation they took some blood, checked my blood pressure and I think they weighed me (though I may have actually told them my weight instead). They also reviewed my meds and went over what was going to happen the day of surgery. I met with an anesthesiologist who asked me questions about any previous surgeries and answered questions and concerns I raised.
After the visit I went over to the Admissions office to get my green card. At that time I showed them my insurance and let her know that I wanted a private room, if possible, or a semi private, if no private room was available. She asked me about whether I needed a telephone, I didn't, or a tv, which I did want.
I have Sun Life for my health insurance and she told me that they used to cover the full price of a private room but that there had been some issues when the hospital moved the price up, so I may be responsible for the extra $20 dollars a night, which I am fine with paying. A private room is $240, a semi private is $220, so basically my insurance would actually pay for the semi private.
I still love Sun Life. As I mentioned in a previous post, they picked up the $297 I spent on the Optifast and reimbursed me.
This may not be relevant to you but if you are going through BMI Medical, you received an electronic copy of "Your Meal Planner After Bariatric Surgery". I would stop by the Bariatric Weight Management Clinic on the 3rd floor of Grimes Lodge and ask the front desk for a printed copy. I like to be able to flip pages and make notes and whatnot on a printed copy.
Good luck!
Oops! One more thing. I actually called to follow up about the pre surgical team meeting, I spoke to Lana again, because almost two weeks after the surgeon meeting I had not heard from the hospital's pre surgery team to schedule an appointment and I was concerned because I was traveling a bit. She ended up following up on her end and the team contacted me the next day to create an appointment.

I have Sunlife as well. We have their flex benefits and I paid extra to have the top package for Medical so I am hoping my opti will be covered as well. I have coverage for semi-private too, but I'm fine with that. I'm not going to upgrade to private. I know that my appointments have gone very quickly but I still feel like I've been waiting FOREVER!! I think if I had a date it wouldn't be so bad- at least I'd be able to see the end in sight. Oh well..... I will try to be patient.
TWH has wifi so as long as I have my cell, I won't need anything else from the hospital... I can bring my ipad too.
